Current mood:  contemplative
Category: Religion and Philosophy
I have written a new post entitled, "The Gospel and Jeremiah Wright" and it is up over at Christ and Culture. I note that the problem Christians should worry about regarding Rev. Wright isn't his pulpit rhetoric, but rather it is his misunderstanding of the Gospel and his disregard for the fundamentals of the faith.  I reference Dr. Denny Burk of Criswell College and Pastor Warren Kelly of the blog View from the Pew for their insights on Wright and his response to a question at the National Press Club on Monday about the exclusivity of the Gospel and Jesus's statement that "no man comes to the Father" but through Him.

I hope you will stop by and offer your thoughts on this growing controversy and Wright's unfortunate penchant for Liberation Theology.

BROTHER HOW ARE U?
I RESPECT THE FACT THAT U ARE NOT SO BRAINED WASHED BY MEDIA.
I AM SICK TO MY STOMACH EVER SINCE I FOUND OUT ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS GOVERNMENT AND HOW THIS WORLD IS BEING LIED TOO, I HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING AT NIGHT BECAUSE NOW I SEE WHAT IS THE ANTI CHRIST.

ANY WAYS THAT IS NOT REALLY RELATED TO YOUR BLOG

I THINK THAT DR WRIGHT IS A WISE MAN, NOT PERFECT BUT VERY WISE

NOW REGARDING THE QUESTION THAT THEY ASKED HIM: "Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the father but through me.'" Then the moderator asked, "Do you believe this? And do you think Islam is a way to salvation?" Wright replied simply, "Jesus also said, 'Other sheep have I who are not of this fold.

I BELIEVE That THAT IS A BRILLIANT ANSWER, HOLY SPIRIT INFLUENCED.

THE REASON I SAY THAT IS BECAUSE THE DEVIL IS TRYING TO TRAP HIM, TO PUT HIM TO THE TEST

THE HUMAN MIND DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME JUDGMENT AS THE ALMIGHTY, JESUS SAYS JUDGE NOT AND YOU WONT BE JUDGED, JESUS SAYS NOT EVERYONE THAT CALLS ME LORD AND HAS PREACHED ABOUT ME OR CAST OUT DEMONS IN MY NAME WILL BE SAVED, BUT ONLY THOSE WHO DO THE WILL OF MY FATHER, JESUS ALSO SAY THAT WE WILL ALL BE JUDGED BY OUR WORKS, IF OUR WORKS ARE GOOD WE WILL BE SAVED BUT IF ITS NOT THEN GOD HAVE MERCY ;p

SO DR WRIGHT DID NOT WANT TO JUDGE, INSTEAD HE QUOTED A SCRIPTURE, WHICH IS HOLY AND DISPELS DEMONIC POWERS THAT ARE AROUND HIM.

THE DEVIL IS TRYING MAKE WAR AND HATE BETWEEN US, BUT HE SAID WE NEED TO LOVE EACH OTHER AND HE KEPT QUOTING SCRIPTURES.

IN THE END HE IS JUST A MAN LIKE ME AND YOU, HE WILL NEVER BE PERFECT OR WITH OUT FAULT, BUT HE IS A SERVENT OF CHRIST AND I THINK HE DID QUITE WELL.

GOD BLESS
HOPE TO HEAR FROM U SOON

Hey man,

First, thanks for your comments. Second, I don't really get into conspiracy theories, nor do I care even if they are true or not. Third, I am sure of one thing and that is that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, He was crucified for the sins of those who put their faith in Him, and He was resurrected on the third day as a testimony to this truth and to His power over Death.

Now, that brings me to your comment, which I believe lacks Scriptural basis. You said that Wright's answer was brilliant and Holy Spirit influenced. I beg to differ. First, the Holy Spirit will NEVER say anything to anyone that contradicts what He has already inspired to be written in God's Word. Hopefully, you would agree. If the Holy Spirit did do so, then He would be a liar and we could not trust Him or the Father, or even the Son, since they are all one Being in Three Persons.

So, when Wright uses John 10:16 to explain away John 14:6, He is making Christ a liar. First, Wright fundamentally misunderstands Christ's point, which was not about those in other religions, but about those who were not Jewish. Clearly He was speaking to an entirely Jewish audience. He often chastised the Pharisees for their hatred of the Gentiles and Samaritans. So, when He tells the people He has sheep not of this fold, He is again reiterating that His people will come from every tribe, tongue, and nation, NOT that they will come from other religions. That is why He calls His disciples in Matthew 28 to take the Gospel to the "uttermost parts of the world."

Second, Wright ignores clear teaching in Scripture which contradicts his claim about those of other religions. These are legion, but let me give you one clear text:

Romans 10:9-17:
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? [3] And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

It is very clear from this text that one must confess that Jesus is Lord with one's mouth and believe Him to be so in their hearts. Muslims reject this outright. Additionally, notice vv.14-17. How can one call on Christ if they do not believe? So, let me ask you, How can a Muslim who does not believe Jesus is the Christ, the son of the Living God - very God of very God, who died for the sins of mankind and was resurrected on the third day - call on Christ and be saved? Answer: They cannot. They must believe. Continue reading in v.14 - how can they believe if they haven't heard. That means you can't believe in something you haven't heard of. There are no such things as anonymous Christians. You must confess Christ, not merely a monotheistic god. Then the second part of that verse - how can they hear unless one is sent. That is our job - to go and tell men and women of Christ and what He has done, so they can believe, so they can call out to Him - declaring "Christ is Lord" and be saved!

And finally, v.17 sums it up - "Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of CHRIST." And we know that apart from Faith we can not please God (Hebrews 11:6).

Third, so my dear friend you were right when you said that "THE DEVIL IS TRYING TO TRAP HIM, TO PUT HIM TO THE TEST." Unfortunately for Wright, the devil accomplished his task, he was able to get Wright to deny that Christ is necessary for salvation - the very belief that the apostles died for - the very mission that Christ came to accomplish - for without Christ there is no hope and apart from Him there is no salvation. Peter says in Acts 4:12, "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

I hope you will see this in Scripture and the Holy Spirit will reveal this truth to you. Pray that He will give you wisdom as you discern this. Sure, we don't want to judge, but we do judge according to how God does, according to how we will be judged, which is to say - Did we confess Christ? If not, it would be better if we had not been born. And we have a responsibility to preach Christ crucified to the world.

For more on the Exclusivity of the Gospel of Christ for salvation, see my article at Monergism.com, entitled, "The Holy Spirit and the Exclusivity of the Gospel". It can be accessed by clicking on this link. Additionally, there are other resources on that page you might consider reading.

I pray that the Holy Spirit would lead you into all truth and that you would see the Glorious Gospel of Christ as the only hope for everyone in the whole world. Thanks again for commenting.

Soli Deo Gloria,
