Students within the School of Journalism at University of Richmond, under the direction of Professor Robert Hodierne, have selected SlamRichmond as the subject of it's film documentary project this year.

U of R students were present for SlamRichmond's first feature of the season, Christian Drake of Albequerque, New Mexico, on Saturday, January 31 and began filming on February 7. The U of R students plan to document the entire season of SlamRichmond from start to finish -- or from the first slam of the season, held Saturday, February 7 to the last, when team members will be selected to represent SlamRichmond and compete at the National Poetry Slam later this year in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The documentary aims to focus not only on the cultural phenomenon of spoken word and poetry slamming itself, but moreso on the people who commit their lives to this artform and attend week after week to hone their skills in workshops, on the open mic and/or as potential team members of SlamRichmond.
