Current mood:  sad
I received the following note this morning
From the Floyd Red Crow Westerman Family

"Floyd Red Crow Westerman passed to the spirit world this morning in Los
Angeles, California, with family at his side. Services are pending. We
thank you from our hearts for all the prayers and support and kindness and
love that you have shown him and us.

Gwen Westerman Griffin
Mankato, MN"

Some thoughts...

My heart was broken today, along with many others,
to hear of Floyd Red Crow Westerman's passing.
I had the great honor to meet him briefly some twenty years back
and to hear him sing his songs. He gave me a cassette of his music.
I have always treasured this gift of songs and I have it still...
His songwriting carried the depth of vision, integrity, humanity,
courage, and trueness of heart that you very rarely find.
To hear him sing-you would just shake your
head and think "yes...yes...this man Knows...he Knows!!!"
His generous presence and his deep spirit heart encouraged me
along my own journey and will continue to.
Peace and blessings to you Floyd Red Crow
as you continue your journey now to the land of your mothers
and fathers...
Thank you for your songs and thank you for your journey...
it was a good road and you traveled it well...
let our hearts be mended in our remembering...
We will miss you- until we meet again...

"Ah the flowers that we wear!
Ah, the songs that we raise!
-we are on our way to the Realm of Mystery!
If only for one day
let us be together, my friends!
We must leave our flowers behind us,
and our songs:
and yet the earth remains unchanged.
My friends, enjoy the blessings!
My friends, enjoy each other!
My friends! Enjoy!"

He really was a man of incredible presence. You were so very lucky to have met him, hear him sing and what a gift he gave you!

I have seen him mentioned across the internet today acknowledging his many talents. He will be missed.

And you will meet again, as we all shall, in a perfect place unlike this vale of tears.
