Dear All,
I just wanted to bring to your attention some of the great Free Music industry panels and shows taking place over the next 3 days as part of this years City Showcase all completely FREE and all slap bang in the center of London at the Apple Store in Regent st London if you are around.
Proceedings kick off today Thursday May 7th with panelists including Kilimanjaros Stuart Galbraith , Adam Seith from Sellaband, Matt Priest from DX Media /NME RADIO, Pete Jenner from Sincere management, Paul Brown from Spotify , Bobby Friction from Radio 1 and Simon Price from the Independent amongst a whole plethora of other top music industry speakers discussing the future of our fine industry, listening to new music and supporting the future growth and development of our industry. IN short this is the first absolutely FREE music conference and is purely there to help and give advice to young new and emerging artists as well as for all to learn from.
Following this great array of speakers and dispersed inbetween them will be a whole host of performances by great new and emerging artistry including the likes of Max Tuohy, Joe Rose and Emily Baker to name but a few.
Also later on on Thursday evening XFMs Jon Hillcock hosts a fine selection of the best new alternative artistry at the Borderline in the with acts such as the excellent Sky Larkin, White Belt Yellow Tag, Screaming Lights and Arthur all performing absolutely FREE as from 7pm.
Moving onto FRIDAY things keeps on going with the first panel of the day presented by myself and featuring guests from record labels such as Fierce Panda, Visible Noize, Undergroove and Broken Sound discussing their motivations and as to why they do what they do by releasing the first EPs of artists such as Coldplay , The Lost Prophets, The Ghost of a Thousand and Peggy Sue and The Pirates.
All artists and myspace friends are welcome so come on down and say hello.
Other panels also taking place on Friday and well worth checking out include "Manager or Business Partner ?" Headed up by some great legendary managers and "Lets Get this Party Started" with Sean Devine from ASCAP and Patrick Rackow from BACS discussing the importance of the song in the current market.
Later on at 7pm in the Apple store regent street is a true one-off performance by none other than Australian Platinum selling artist GURRUMUL who has got the whole world starting to talk about him. This alone is a one-off FREE not be missed opportunity to catch this artist in his prime . He is also on Jools Holland Later this week and well worth seeing.
Meanwhile also on Friday Night for what promises to be a great evening Chinatown for the first time in the streets history will host 4 artists performing Live and FREE on an outside stage slap bang in the middle of Gerrard st. London act Trip headline the evening with support from The Xcerts, Fire Fall Down and Sophie Lau.
Meanwhile around the corner the music gets tougher with XFM and Rocksound Magazine presenting some very tasty new rock acts hosted by XFMs Ian Camfield with new acts Swound, Hunting the Minatour , The Telegraphs and The Sea taking to the stage again all absolutely FREE. So get there early
Saturday continues with song writers such as Judie Tzuke , Andy Wright and Martin Sutton listening and giving advice to a selection of new song writers in the Apple store from 4 0 Clock onwards.After these songwriter workshops you can also catch live sets from the excellent Blue Roses and Ashley Hickin.
This is followed in the evening by XFM presenting yet another selection of the best new electro acts around at the Borderline and again all absolutely FREE. Hosted by electro DJ Ben Osbourne with performances by
MY Toys Like Me, Milke, The 9000 and Subsource.
All in all im sure you will agree that this is a great opportunity to see some great new and emerging artists and also to find out and learn more about the rapidly changing music industry and if that is nt enough for you across the road in Carnaby st across the whole 3 days will be a selection of more performances in a selection of shops from more brilliant new bands.
Bands I will be definitely trying to catch perform include Goodbye Stereo, Ocean Reid ,Red Sharks in Vegas and Frank Hamilton to name but a few.
