Category: Parties and Nightlife
I figured everyone watched the debate tonight so I thought "Parties and Nightlife" was the best category for this.

During a discussion about energy, McCain punctuates a contrast with Obama by referring to him as "that one," while once again not looking in his opponent's direction but he did point towards him.

I don't think that was racist, in this situation I think McCain genuinely dislikes Obama. Part of me thinks grandpa forgot Obama's name, it was around 9:30 local time.

But I do think earlier in the debate, the second question to be exact,  McCain showed he was a racist. When he was asked by Oliver( a younger black male)
"Well, Senators, through this economic crisis, most of the people that I know have had a difficult time. And through this bailout package, I was wondering what it is that's going to actually help those people out."

First McCain says
"But you know, one of the real catalysts, really the match that lit this fire was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I'll bet you, you may never even have heard of them before this crisis."

then in the same answer follows it up with this
"So this rescue package means that we will stabilize markets, we will shore up these institutions. But it's not enough. That's why we're going to have to go out into the housing market and we're going to have to buy up these bad loans and we're going to have to stabilize home values, and that way, Americans, like Alan ( the white guy sitting across the room), can realize the American dream and stay in their home."

Now I don't know Oliver, but I do know he was interested enough in politics and not only invited to attend the debate but was picked to ask his own question about the bail out. And I will admit I didn't ride my families coattails through the Naval Academy, so I am not as educated as John McCain...But I would have guessed, in that same situation, dude probably had heard of Fannie Mae. And I bet he might even have an American dream he wants realized.

I'm just sayin...

alright j.
i never usually comment on these, because we clearly do not agree on politics. however, this time, i feel like you have made a statement that is a little off base. now, i'm not trying to be condescending like "grandpa", but.... saying that McCain was being racist because he said, "I'll bet you, you may never even have heard of them before this crisis", is doing nothing but throwing fuel on the racist fire.

I don't think he intended to be racist at all. I know many people who had no idea about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It is possible. Should he have said that? No. Could it be taken wrong? Yes. I think that it would have more to do with his age than his color if anything, however, I honestly think that it was meant as there are a lot of people in this country who have never heard of these companies until they were blasted out in the news like they are now.

I think saying someone is being racist for a simple statement such as the one that was made just continues to hinder forward progress in this country.
