more websites should spend the time needed to not only validate their code, but also make it mobile ready. more of us are using our cell phones, pocket pcs, palm pilots, and whatnot to browse the web, but the vast majority looks like crap on our stuff. I myself use a treo 650 with my sprint plan, and until opera can fix compatibility w/treo 650, i'm stuck using blazer 4 as a browser, and it's horrible. all the websites i've done (or are still in the middle of doing) for the past year and a half or so are mobile-ready, and I didn't have to do much beyond writing valid html that's also semantically proper and limiting my stylesheet to non-handheld media.
we, the mobile public, WANT to continue visiting all the websites we normally visit, but if we can't take you to go we'll find some that CAN.
