First, let me tell you that I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, ground zero for Hurricane Katrina. I also lived here when Hurricane Camille devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1969. Both storms brought death and surreal destruction, a sudden and immediate change to all the lives of those who live here. Normal day-to-day life, as we knew it, ended. Normal day-to-day life ended!!!!!
When a killer hurricane has your hometown in it is sights, it creates a strange but certain kind of buzz amongst the people who live in the strike zone. All carry out emergency preparations. We have been educated by experience as well as by experts in the field of prepping for killer storms. Homes and businesses are physically hardened against the wrath of the coming storm. Non-perishable food supplies, clean water and water purification supplies, first aid supplies, recovery tools and material supplies, personal protection supplies, all of these things are assembled by all.
This past week I have noticed in myself as well as other that there has been this strange tension, as if a beast from the gulf is coming, but I knew this was not the case. Just a bit more insight made me realize that the storm tension I have been feeling is not from the gulf but it is moving at us all from New York and Washington DC. It is moving toward all of our hometowns, we are all in the path of a storm with the potential of destroying all of our ways of life. Do the citizens of America have the experience or the education to deal with such a storm? How many are setting aside supplies to survive the aftermath if the storm destroys their place of work, homes or towns? When killer hurricanes are heading our way the TV news repeats over and over, "Panic is unnecessary but everyone needs to prepare immediately just in case".
Three weeks ago the Secretary of the Treasure and the head of the Federal Reserve Bank were on TV telling us we are on the brink of economic Armageddon. Today Mr. Bush was on TV saying everything will be just fine that it will just take a little time.
The stock market continues to fall.
I have seen the wrath, I have seen the strength and will of the people to recover and move ahead. I have seen the rebirth of community.
Most everyone here made preparations for the storm that came to us from the gulf.
If an economic storm is coming to America, some will be ready, some will not.
