It's a tough time the rekkid making business is going through these
days, and no-one is feeling the pinch more than your local independent
record store. Dublin's own stalwart has been Road Records, whose
support to fledging and existing Dublin alternative bands has been
vital. Some weeks back they announced that the financial strain had
become overwhelming and the store was set to close.
Amazingly, there's a chance it might survive. Some good folk have
stepped forward to invest in the business, and thanks to Vinny from the
Jimmy Cake, a bunch of us Dublin bands that owe a ridiculous debt to
the shop are to play a gig this Saturday. Word is that if the gig is a
sell-out they should be able to continue, so please, please if you're
in Dublin and at a loose end, do come along.
We've been laying low gig wise lately, but for this have amalgamated
with our pals Large Mound to try and cook up something special, but to
spare our blushes, we're going on pretty early. Stuff that should
actually be good on the night includes Jape and Si Schroeder, check out
the full line up over at
www.roadrecs.com, tickets from the WAV box
office.
