Current mood: restless
Hello all the people who read my bs. I have just uploaded 13 tracks to alonetone.com/mudoctave that I call the album "Dining Room Revolutions" and I am dedicating it to The Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who is still in a come months after a car accident.
I'd like to talk a little bit what Chi has done for me. When I was younger and first heard the Deftones I fell in love. My first album was "Adrenaline", which I still consider to this day to be one of the best albums I've ever heard. I hadn't begun playing bass at the time, but because of the way Chi played I loved it. After that I learned almost every song on every one of their albums on the bass (and guitar), religiously collecting their CDs. I am still planning on making my first cover song their "One Weak". Most of the time in metal bands you either can't hear the bass or its just doubling the guitar part, which wasn't always the case with the Deftones bass lines and that inspired me immensely.
In past interviews Chi mentioned that he was influenced by Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk and others. After reading that I started to appreciate and listen to Jazz and toady am a huge fan of many great Jazz musicians who I would not have been if not for reading those interviews.
Chi has inspired my playing style, poetry and many other aspects of my life. I hope that he recovers completely and I hope he leads a long, full, healthy life of doing what he loves and inspiring further generations of bass players.
I don't want to exploit the situation, though I would like people to hear what I have dedicated to Mr. Cheng. If you would like to listen, the album can be found at www.alonetone.com/mudoctave and once again is called "Dining Room Revolutions". I hope that everyone that listens to those poems and the bass playing thinks of Chi and I hope it raises awareness of his and similar situations.
