Who Gives Kudos:

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

we're doing a special gig in Northampton this Saturday 20th September.  here's the write up from this culture website of what you can expect from us.

Have you heard of Christopher D. Ashley? Well you might have heard his single 'We Are Shining' but the album Cruel Romantics was pigeonholed as synth-pop. Don't let that put you off as Mr. Ashley's "neoeighties electropop" is closer to techno, funk and boogie a la Jamie Liddell ('We Ain't Through') and electronic noodlings like Future Loop Foundation ('Snow White'). Be prepared to be impressed by both acts.

incidentally, Snow White was stolen and "leaked" by some cunt from my studio computer, so it's never going to see the light of day as a release.  it still needed some mixing, but if you're interested in finding out what kind of music i write when i have too much time on my hands and get into some pretty heavy programming (max/msp) you might want to hunt it down on one of them pirate sites that ensures no money goes to artists for the work they do.  you might as well, but the kick is too loud cos i didn't mix that version properly.

I don't get this at all. We know you can get music for free; I do when I can't find it elsewhere (vinyl preferred) or if I'd like to check something out before I invest in it from my modest budget. What we don't know is that the two are related. Last record I bought I paid 20€ for, second hand, and I was happy with my purchase as I had already enjoyed the "free" download so much. I'd be happier with a new re-release but you can't expect that for fringe releases in vinyl.

OTOH; if I knew my music was being copied with my name on it I'd make sure they could get a version that was up to my standards. Why not put it online with the kick like you want it?

So; I'd put that kick straight and mix it properly, then put it online for free and/or release it anyway and I'm not sure why you don't; after all in some way your are now promoting it.

I'm honestly looking for your perspective on this; not some argument.

Ah. Ok.

I was wondering why you seemed to be in-between two attitudes. Ok, in that case it makes sense. Personally I find IDM techniques a lot more fun to use then I find the results fun to listen to, I suppose that's what you were doing as well.

and it's not really representative of what i do. if people heard that track, they might think i'm some kind of IDM artist... and i haven't really done too many tracks like that, let alone released them...
