Guy Ritchie Says 'Sgt. Rock' Is The Film He (Still) Wants To MakePublished by Casey Seijas on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:23 am.
Sgt. RockDespite all the news about his upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" project starring Robert Downey, Jr. tearing up the internet, Guy Ritchie refuses to rest on his laurels. In an interview with MTV News, Ritchie spoke about another project that he's still dying to take a shot at — an adaptation starring DC Comics' flagship war hero, Sgt. Rock.
While Ritchie on "Rock" has been a rumor for some time now, the "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" director was quick to point out that he's still planning on making the film, it's just gotten bumped down his schedule for other projects — namely, "Sherlock Holmes."
"Sgt. Rock was the film I wanted to make," said Ritchie. "'Sherlock' managed to butt into the front of it. 'Sherlock Holmes' is a bit of a rock-n-rolla. It's aggressive and wanted to be made. We just grabbed it. Downey was enthusiastic. It just seemed like a perfect storm."
As for the appeal of making a film about an American World War II hero, Ritchie explained, "Because it's funny and it's in a genre I believe I could do a good job in. It's guys fighting around in World War II. I shouldn't go too far wrong."
