We just returned from Jazz and Rib Fest in Columbus Ohio where we had
a great time seeing and playing with our friends and an amazing cast
of our elder heroes.

We met James Moody in the hotel lobby at 4am who shared stories of
Chano Pozo with Chris and flute and reed observations with Jay. It was good to see Vincent Chancey (played w Sun Ra & Brass Fantasy who we know from back in the Giant Step days through Abstract Truth) - as well as Charles Fambrough (bassist in Wynton's first band - played with Blakey) also Craig Handy (Headhunters & Mingus),Jerry Dodgion (saxophonist who's been with everyone from Count Bassie
to TitoPuente) and the entire T S Monk band, while enjoying some award
winning ribs!

Also had lunch with Percussionist/Bandleader Sammy FIgueroa and his
manager Rachel Faro, President of Ashe records and hung out with Bill
Summers who was performing with Headhunters and Airto. We and ended up at a bata drumming session in Bill's hotel room until 2am. A great time!
