I was checking out the Revolutionary Communist Party to see what they were all about (and no, I'm NOT a communist) and they were sending around this message for people to not drink the Obama-laid. I thought it was, among other things, pretty funny. My take on that was they are saying that, while Obama may have the intent to make change in this country, it is the system that is inherently flawed and so no matter who becomes president - republican or democrat - things will always remain relatively the same until we change the system itself. Of course the communists would have it change to their way, which I questioned them if it wouldn't be more of the same and maybe worse.
But I think now, only a few months into his presidency, were already seeing him flip-flop on various issues. So what I'm saying is why don't we use our constitutional right to make some kind of revolution in this country? We're so complacent and easily manipulated by the media and politicians that we have lost our spines. Revolution is NOT un-American despite what some may have you believe. Our system is being slowly erroded and the checks and balances put in place to prevent a lot of what we've seen in the last century, and specifically the last 2 Bush terms, are being broken down.
Presidential signing statements are a good example of this. When a bill is put in front of a president he/she is either supposed to sign it or not. Not sign it and then say they're not going to acknowledge parts of it. That directly breaks the power of congress to check the president and gives the president more executive power that he/she is supposed to have.
The other thing is the un-patriotic Patriot Act. Why is this still in effect? I've actually tried to read it and quickly realized that the actual document amends a whole bunch of other laws. So you can't read it like a you would a book, which makes it difficult to understand. What I did understand is that it updates some of the FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) laws to incude the internet. But the rest of it we've already heard about. So what gives? Silence on the part of us American citizens effectively condones all the parts of the Patriot Act that allows the Feds to spy on us and invade our privacy without warrants or cause.
C'mon America, WAKE UP!!! We took the first step by electing Obama, but now we need to go all the way and take back OUR country and government. We need to take [non-violent] action! We need to use our consitutional rights and put this system in check and not let it check us. Otherwise, guess what... America becomes something else.
