There's a war going on, with deadly serious consequences, and you are part of it.  You are either directly engaged, or you are a pawn being manipulated by those who are.  Humanity has recognized this conflict since its beginning, and powerful institutions, like religions and governments, have been created in humanity's defense.  But this war is being lost, because those institutions, our defenses, have been compromised and corrupted by the enemy.  What is this war?  It is the battle of good versus evil.  Why does it matter to you?  Because the quality of your life, and maybe even your life itself, and the lives of all the people you care about, hang in the balance.

So, which side are you on?

To answer this question, we must define the sides.  The dividing line between good and bad is the Golden Rule stated in its negative form -- "Do not do to others what you would not have them do to you."  This simple maxim defines the floor for what is good and the ceiling for what is bad (think of the bad being down in the basement, and the good being on the main floor).  Evil is simply bad taken to an extreme (think of a putrid sub-basement pit).

The founding fathers of the government of the United States drew a line in the sand dividing bad from evil when they wrote the Declaration of Independence.  "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."  Evil may be defined then by doing to others that which denies them their lives, their liberty, their ability to pursue happiness, or any of their other unalienable rights.  Killing innocent people, like the United States is doing in Afghanistan and Iraq, is evil.  Imprisoning innocent people, like the United States is doing in Guantanamo Bay and in other off-shore secret prisons, is evil.  Forcing all Americans to labor many hours to finance these criminal activities, as the tax laws of the United States do, is evil.  How is it that our government, originally designed to support the common good, could become an instrument of evil?

The Bible tells us how.  "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." (1 Timothy 6: 7-10)  When a private organization controls the creation of money, evil will naturally congregate there, because money is the tool needed to convince good people to do evil things.  In the United States, that private organization is the Federal Reserve, and it is the bastion of evil that clandestinely steers the government into directing Americans to do evil.  Good American men and women serve as soldiers to defend our country, yet because they are trained to obey orders in the pursuit of their daily bread, they obediently invade sovereign countries and take innocent lives.  Good American men and women serve our justice system, yet because they are paid and need to earn a living, they torture those labeled as enemies and deny them access to real justice.  And good American men and women serve the IRS, yet because they are dependent on a paycheck, they consent to ruining the lives of others when commanded to do so.  But is money all it takes to make good people serve evil?

No.  Another ingredient is needed:  deception.  Just as a wolf in sheep's clothing gains the trust of its next victim, evil pretends to be as good and innocent as a country mom.  Pleasant, smiling faces explain in soothing terms why bailouts, deficits, surveillance, new rules, more prisons, and more wars are necessary, and why you must pay for these things with another portion of your unalienable rights.  The evil people must convince the good people that everyone is united in service to the common good.  The soldiers are told that they are fighting to defend the freedoms of their loved ones.  The police, jailers, and torturers are told that they are enforcing the laws necessary for civilization and harmony to exist.  The civil servants that participate in stealing from the poor to give to the rich are told that fairness demands their actions.  All are subjected to pervasive public propaganda designed to deceive and control.  And it is working.  Evil is winning.  Can it be stopped?

"Can it be stopped?"

No, the kind of evil you are describing cannot be stopped. As long as there are evil people, they will always win the game. No matter how many evil people you kill, you will always find that evil exists. If you believe that evil is caused by evil people, you will not ever be able to kill enough evil people to rid the world of evil.

If you want to win the game, you have to change the game. A game in which evil people exist cannot be won.

Would you be surprised that I think you are wrong, Zeph? There is good and evil in all people in varying degree and proportion. This being the case, I am certainly not advocating killing evil people. This is no game, and you can't wish it away. Evil can be stopped, once you understand how it works. Knowledge is the key, and when that key is turned (when action is exercised), evil can be stopped dead in its tracks.

See my follow-up blog, "Stopping Evil."  If you think killing people is the way to eliminate evil, you will have to kill everyone, including yourself.  You will also be eliminating good at the same time, because good and evil exist to some degree in every person.

Very well articulated, Hugh! I have found that the greatest barrier to educating people about this is their fear. It's like they refuse to acknowledge that any of this is true because it is to contrary to the brainwashing that has mollified them their whole lives. They want to believe the myth that we are a just and caring nation, directly in the face of the facts that we are invading and destroying countries and entire generations of foreign people. We torture in secret prisons. As long as it is happening somewhere else, it just doesnt seem to matter to them. The only thing that might shake them from their sheeplike view of the world is when the terror starts affecting them and their own loved ones. Sad to say it. I think Einstein once said that "The Greatest barrier to acquiring knowledge is contempt prior to investigation." People see conspiracy theory as contemptible and refuse to even investigate these things for themselves. It's far easier for them to just think anyone talking like this must be crazy and paranoid. It's such a tricky issue to try and get around. But I think education is step one. They need to see that their is a problem, then maybe we can go about fighting this evil force that has tainted the spirit of this planet. Thanks for doing your part to spread that education!

Thanks for the enlightening comment, JadeDragon!  That quote has the unmistakeable mark of wisdom I've come to expect from Einstein, but I haven't been able to verify that he said or wrote it.  Regardless, it's spot-on.  I agree that our propaganda-induced contempt is blinding us to the reality we need to investigate.

Thanks! You know what, I actually was confusing two quotes I have on my profile page. It was Herbert Spencer that said "There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance; that principle is contempt prior to investigation."


The similar quote from Einstein is "Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance." Very much the same sentiment. And it is this knee jerk reaction by the very people you seek to educate that stops all forward progress. 


Another great quote I have which seems pertinent is this one by Michael Rivero..."Most people prefer to believe that their leaders are just and fair, even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. To take action in the face of a corrupt Government risks harm to life and loved ones. To choose to do nothing is to surrender one's self image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice. Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker, but only to give the moral cowards an excuse to think nothing at all."

The conspiracy theories winners don't like are the ones that lead to a conclusion that evil people exist. As soon as one arrives at that conclusion, they've lost because there isn't any way to get rid of evil people.

It's surprising, and literally refreshing, to see how powerful words are, used in the right context.  This is truly a masterwork at describing the very core of these central concepts of good and evil.  Really, the Golden Rule says it all in that aspect.  But THIS writing brings it all into modern times and modern ways in which that rule is twisted in every possible way. 

I would also agree with Zephram (somewhere up there).  Evil will continue to exist, and will probably win because the nature of fighting and war are on the side of evil. 

This is probably a terrible analogy, but my state is a little altered and it seems like it would fit.  I have many cats, all with different personalities, but also part of a family or pride.  One particular cat (a female) has decided to act as protector for all the cats when dogs come in the yard.  We have pit bulls living behind us and they've broken through the fence several times. 

They bark and growl and scare the shit out of me.  The other cats make themselves scarce real quick, but this particular female slowly saunters over to this barking, growling mess.  Just the visual image of it is strange, since she is so much smaller than the dogs.  She calmly sits there until they quiet down and go back to their yard.  They've never once made a move at her.  When she calmly sits there, watching them put on their show of ferocity, I think even the dogs start to realize how rediculous they look. 

I think Zephram is right in that we need to change the game before we can set things right.

Great analogy -- thanks for sharing, Carla.  I love the mental image you painted in my mind of that brave cat and the snarling pit bulls.  It reminds me of the solitary man who faced down the tank in Tiananmen Square.  Powerful stuff!  And are you suggesting that the pen may be mightier than the sword?  Yes, I believe it is often true.  Ideas are powerful, and words can spread them from mind to mind like a chain reaction until an enormous force is unleashed.  Can evil oppose this force?  No, which is why the minds must be controlled by deception.

I'm glad the analogy made sense!  I wasn't quite sure.

Yes, I do think the pen is mightier than the sword.  I also think that united, non-violent resistance can be terribly powerful, if the people can remain united. 

I agree that everyone has both good and evil within them.  I think most people would choose good if it were the easier option.  That's where the issue of deception comes in.  Actually, just plain lying.  Here's a good explanation of how that works:

Though not a good man, Goering was smart and capable.  His quote shows that the same strategy is being used today in our own country, as evidenced by the false-flag attacks of 9/11.  How unfortunate that good people are like putty in the hands of evil manipulators.  I should know, as I was once putty myself.

One thing I need to say is that altho there is merit in asking questions like this, I think it's a deficiency of the left that there's dogma about tactics in how to stop what's being done to us and to the world.  We can kick around ideas about "evil" and quote biblical passages and philosophers.  We can intellectualize about reality, which makes metaphor of real suffering.  We can analyze and theorize, but when it comes to feet on the planet reality, I think the question that needs to be asked is, in the next 20 to 150 yrs (--Because that is the time frame we've been warned about with regard to the state of the destruction being done to the planet and the ability of life on earth to survive--), what did we do to stop the destruction and protect the ability of current and future generations to find and eat food and water, to breathe, and to live?  When it was clear, for example, that the land and watershed in Tennessee was being destroyed, so that the people  and other communities there could not live anymore (which is where it's going fast), just so people in other landbases could have electricity, what was done to stop the destruction (whether we CALL it evil, stupid--for fouling the only planet we have and need--, criminal, insane, or whatever we CALL it)?  Another example is what's going on in Peru right now.  The corporations working with gov'ts throughout the world, go in and take over the resources, giving a cut to the politicians, and take the only land and water and air the locals and / or indigenous (traditional or otherwise) have.  They make deals and the local communities are left out of the deal, except as fodder.  When they (we) defend themselves, they're called terrorists.  And in the meantime, the left's dogma about killing people keeps the status quo in place.  Another question to ask is what would you do to protect what and who you love?  Do you have children?  Do you love them?  If so, do you want them to live?  How about their offspring?  If so, what would you do if someone directly and immediately threatened their lives?  You'd stop them, wouldn't you?  Or would you stand there and say, please stop, I won't kill you, even though you are killing my children and others I love, because I think I'll become like you if I kill you...  No, I think you'd see the need for self defense.  You'd recognize that that's the only question that matters, and in that moment, all this philosophy would fall away and reality would kick us in the ass.  Yet, one problem is that we can't see that they ARE killing us--Those evil, lying, criminal, insane, stupid fascists who take over our ability to feed ourselves and insist we live according to unsustainable industrial dogma. Ultimately, the question they will ask us is, when it was clear that the water we need to live would be gone or too foul to drink in 20-50 yrs from now what did you do?  When it was clear that food supplies will be severely shortened, because of peak oil and / or hording, and / or because the soil can no longer support life for 7-12 billion people on a finite planet, what did you do to stop the machine of industrialism that keeps forcing us to live in an unsustainable way?  Did you stop them? 
 
Part of the problem, too, is that in a culture of industrialism, the connection between loving one's children and other humans and loving the planet and other nonhuman communities is rarely made.  Most industrial humans love the LOOK of the horizon, but do not recognize that they cannot live without the planet that gives them (us) life, and without fully respecting that, they'll keep thinking that water comes from a tap, rather than the land, and fighting back happens by committing to "never" using violence, while our current and future lives are violated second by second....

Please read the next blog, Roxanne, and comment back again.  The destruction of the environment that we all need to survive is being driven by the love of money.  People mistakenly believe that if you have money, you have the good life.  It's easy to see why they believe that, because in the short-run it is obviously true, but in the long-run it is clearly false.  If we base our decisions on money, we walk invariably to our own destruction.  If we base our decisions on what is best for the common good of all life, we become, quite literally, "Saviors".  If ever there was a religion that I could be part of, that would be it.
