Ok first and foremost Friday July 4th at Halo was not our last show by any stretch of the imagination. If anything if was a new chapter in this screwed up, disfunctional journey we call a band. As I said, it's like we're starting a new chapter and that new chapter may include changing our band name. We realize that changing the name means starting over in a sense but by no means are we "breaking up." We're throwing around some ideas for a new band name.
Swinging Pachyderms has served us well in this area but as we grow as a band and wish to grow our platform outside of this area we realize that our current name is not very marketable outside of East Tennessee. We have ran into some trouble booking away from here due to people not understanding what the name means and some of them even mistaking us for a swing band. Also people outside of here who haven't seen or heard us often make that assumption as well.
But please hear me when I say we ARE NOT BREAKING UP. Please spread the word and inform anyone who may have been misinformed about the future of this band. But we are taking some time off, mainly to learn some new material both cover and original. In the process we also hope to start recording our new album sometime this Fall. The name may change but the song will stay the same.....sort of. We've gone through some major changes in the past couple of months mainly due to changing drummers. For those of you who don't know, Andy Russell who is the extremely talented drummer for Rob Russell and the Sore Losers is now playing drums for us as well as long as his schedule will permit him to do so. We are very fortunate to have Andy on board. His overall music experience is going to be a great asset to the band and after one show has already helped improve and change our sound a little bit. For those of you who were at our most recent Halo show, you got to hear it first hand. Things are changing for the good.
We look forward to what the future holds for us as a band and hope you all will keep an eye out for the new band name and help us to get the new name out there as much as you did the old one. We still have a few shows scheduled here and there and I'm sure some more will pop up. But when we have our new name and "new" sound, believe me, you will know it. Thanks again to all of you for all you support and we hope it will continue as we go through these "changes."
By the way we're playing at Capone's Saturday July 12th opening for Jonathan Singleton who has written songs for several country artists including "Watching Airplanes," performed by Gary Allan. Jonathan is now performing with his band and it should be an awesome night. Come on out and show your support.
See Ya On Up The Road,
Gary
