Well here we are...finally joining the MySpace community and now writing our very first Blog. We'll try and get on here from time to time to let you in on what's going on in the world of GrassStreet.
September was a busy month for us...with the climax coming during the IBMA Fan Fest weekend. We were invited to come and play at the Bluegrass Inn on Broadway so we loaded up the bus and hit the road. Let me clarify...our bus is actually a Chevy Tahoe and yes...we all crammed in there and endured the 10 hour ride together. Nothing brings a band together like 20+ hours in an SUV with luggage for 5 along with their instruments...especially when one is an upright bass.
If that didn't bring us closer together...then sleeping in the living room of a 2 bedroom apartment in downtown Nashville sure did. We found out who snored...who will get up and run no matter what time we went to bed...who couldn't get out of bed...and who has a broken alarm clock.
We feel like we gave a good showing at our showcase at the Bluegrass Inn. Big thanks to Dave Burley for setting that up for us.
In addition to playing we got to hear a lot of great bluegrass music. We all agreed that the best performance on the Fan Fest stage was the Hot Rize show. They are a big influence on our music and it was great seeing them live again. Some of us also stumbled on a performance by newcomer Carrie Hassler & Hard Rain at Ernest Tubb's Record Shop and they blew us away. Of course, having Jim Van Cleve and Clay Jones didn't hurt but these guys can flat out pick! Carrie has a voice that will be heard across the country on bluegrass radio...if it isn't already. Keep your eye on this band.
That about does it for our IBMA update. There will be pictures posted soon from our performance along with other photo highlights from the trip.
