Hi there and welcome to another issue of the official e-newsletter of the Shrugs. It's amazing that we've stuck at it for a whole three issues, but there you go. It's even more amazing that we've kept the silly name, which started off as a tribute to another local band we once played with and has now grown into something quite unique and special.
Our super exciting news is that 'Dead by Morning' was in the soundtrack to a recent episode of Outrageous Fortune. It was the backing music during a flashback where one of the characters finds out she's been fired (not sure which character, but she's blonde and kind of a bogan. Does that help?). OK, so maybe some of you are thinking, "what's so special about that? Kiwi bands get played on the telly all the time". Well, you might be right, but it was our first time on TV, so we were kinda thrilled. Try not to harsh our buzz.
We've added a new page to our website, called '
From the Vault '. It's a collection of old bits and pieces we've recorded over the years, mostly live takes of album songs. We'll keep adding to the page as more old stuff comes to light. Feel free to download and share any of the audio on our site, that's what it's there for!
On the 22nd of August we play at Ward Lane with
The Garden and Hollow Grinders. The Grinders were friggin' awesome when they supported the Puddle recently so we're looking forward to seeing them play again. The Garden are quite new. Emerald Clark plays bass in The Prime Numbers (Paul T's other, other band) but in the Garden she pulls out some serious guitar solos. Anyway, it should be a nice fun show. It will be $5 on the door and you know that Ward Lane always has a few reasonably priced beers...
And we're excited to be supporting the amazing
Onanon who are coming all the way up from Dunedin. They're playing in Wellington on Thursday 3rd September, and then in Auckland on the 4th and in Hamilton on the 5th. We'll be joining them for the Auckland and Hamilton shows along with the Demi Whores. Don't miss these guys, they're awesome!
Anyway, take care out there
Love,
