DAY 3- March 26th

Today was fairly laid back. We went back to the studio off of Wedgewood and narrowed the song selection down to five and then found appropriate tempos for each song. Here they are (with the chosen beats per minute if you care).

Nightingale - 127bpm

Born in the Dark - 112bpm

Everybody’s Got a Broken Heart - 106bpm

My Last Goodbye - 130bpm

American Dream - 124bpm

From there...Juice taught me how to chip...

Jeremy worked on bass lines...

And I played a tiny guitar...

O.K. songs are picked and ready. Big day tomorrow!

DAY 4- March 27th, 2008

Today is a pretty massive day within the span of this sesson. We rented out a studio on Music Row called House of David for the whole day. It’s a beautiful space that Elvis once recorded in back in the day. There is actually a trap door in one of the tracking rooms that they built for him so he could drive under the studio and walk right into the vocal booth and then leave.

This is Adam (or Abner) who works at House of David as a secondary engineer. He really knows the rooms and sped up the process a great deal.

Essentially, the bulk of the session was recorded live. We set up in a way in which everyone in the band could see each other and catch the energy we’ve created together over our time together.

We pieced a kit together out of the best sounding gear we had around..

And Jerms had like 8,000 bass guitars to choose from...

Dave sat up right in the middle of things..
Photobucket

I stayed isolated so the acoustic and vocals wouldn’t pick up too much bleed over...
Photobucket

Josiah had a whole room to himself containing a wurly, rhodes, and hammond b3...
Photobucket

And, of course, Ryan did his thing all day...
Photobucket

Then we broke for way too expensive Mexican food...

After that, we came back and finished the live part of the session. It worked out where drums and bass were completed. From there we over dubbed guitars and piano.

Ha...oh and this is Liberache’s piano (which sounds aaaamazing!)

So, after 13 hours straight of magic and love....we went home exhausted and happy. The next step will be heading back to the Wedgewood studio and overdubbing some tasteful tracks. Ideas in the works include: live string section, harp, female vocals, sleigh bells, etc...

Stick around friends.

love,

Will

Glad to see Everybody's Got a Broken Heart on the list, as well as the other four.

Sounds like the progress is going great, and I wish I could be in Nashville to drop by and watch the magic unfold.
