Current mood: hungry
Just updating the peeps on life according to me.
The past few months have been hectic, bizarre, demoralizing at times, greivous, and at the same time uplifting and life-affirming.
First off, I have been spending more time on Facebook, so if you want to join me there then you are more than welcome. My last name is spelt "omberg", so there you go. It's a pain in the ass to join every newest and greatest social network,, but this one is a lot of fun (in small doses) and I am able to really, honestly, keep up with my friends - my real friends.
A lot of people are freaking out over their respective job situations and who can blame them. Even though my current union contract has a no-layoff clause, that will only last through 2010, and who knows how things will be? The Postal Service is definitely going through some rough times, but fortunately they have direct contact with Uncle Obama, so that's always a good thing. Since O got elected through the help of the unions, he kinda owes us. I hate to say it, but that's probably our only advantage. My brother got laid off, but then he found another job and starts Monday. Everyone else is doing pretty good, all things considered.
That's not to say that I've escaped any change whatsoever. The PO is moving some people around, and I'm going to be one of them. I'm kind of glad, because I desperately need change, and I'm not one to change easily.
I'd love to work day time hours again, and preferably in a smaller post office that doesn't have crazy people in management. I know that's a tall order. On that front, sadly, we lost one of our most experienced and well-loved union stewards a few weeks ago. He was a good friend, a fellow Cowboys fan, and just a total great guy. I miss him daily, which just shows you how strange life is. If you had told me ten-fifteen years ago that one of my best adult friends of the opposite sex would be a middle-aged, overweight black guy, then I would have said you were nuts, and that has nothing to do with race. It's just a matter of who we all are and who we socialize with. But Applewhite was the kind of guy that was so comfortable in his skin that he made you just as comfortable. I still can't believe he's gone.
So I got my tax return and was able to purchase a few things I had been needing/wanting, but mostly I'm trying to save money in case I need to move, which I might if the PO says so. They will pay for most of it,but I would like to do a few things to the house before I go. I'm hoping to just unload it to someone who will just pay off my balance. I don't even care about making a profit at this point.
Starting on the 13th, I'm going on vacation, so I will be spending more time at the shooting range, learning more about my 9mm and exercising our ever-dwindling second amendment rights.
I still love "Lost", and it's actually becoming a lot less confusing for me, though I know some people have given up trying to figure it out. I've had the advantage of watching them all in fairly rapid succession on DVD so a lot of things happening now (or then) are not predictable, but they aren't as shocking to me when they happen - if that makes any sense.
Well, that's all for now. Here's hoping for a wonderful springtime! Yay! Baseball season!
