Whats the word people? I hope this blog finds everyone in a good place in life...Okay now that thats handled I can get to the real shit!!!
TOURING!!! First off I would like to say that its a blessing that people would pay their hard earned funds to come check my brothers out at whatever venue we are playing in their particular city. With that said it does not give you access to a niggas entire existence. I mean DAMN Can A Nigga Live?!?!?!?!
Let me give you a day in the life of a blue collar touring artist (cuz thats all I know).
First you get up knowing you may be late for bus call cuz you just went to sleep a couple of hours ago. Now depending on who you are you may have gotten high, drunk or a combo or you may have beat the odds and remained sober.
Now you have to board the bus with a bunch of other potentially late niggas, what makes this tricky is that the driver, the tour mgr and maybe a couple other guys are giving you the, "Damn nigga you late" look. And you giving them the "Nigga I dont give a fuck" look. This is a sure start to a day of madness.
Now remember we have yet to pull off and we are already on sched to be late for a bunch of shit that some motherfucker in an office with no care for our time has pre-booked us for (not including the performance...we actually WANT to do that, hell thats the ONLY reason we came on tour).
So now we are driving, well the driver is driving and the rest of the traveling troupe is trying to decide what to do with themselves for the rest of the drive. Now some drives can be very short. Up to 4 hours is considered a short trip in touring terms, 5-9 is medium and 10 and over is damn near prison-ish.
Now on a short trip time kind of flies. A couple movies, some conversations about the show last night, some jokes and some video game play can eat that time up pretty quick. You can def handle a short trip no matter who you are.
A medium length trip will have you deciding if you want to engage in banter with the crew or hit the bunks and catch up on some sleep. If you're anything like me you can do both with ease and not have to go crazy trying to entertain yourself. This is not to say that some niggas dont go a little coo coo for coco puffs, but all in all a medium length trip is cool for the most part.
Fuck a LONG trip...that shit will test the even the most sound individuals. I have seen niggas in a zombie like state after the 10th hour. Its like you cant sleep forever, unless you dead and watching TV for a long period of times has a crazy effect on your brain...REAL TALK!!! Like you start seeing double and all kinds of shit. So most niggas go into nutball mode(No Homo!). Thats when you just dont know what to do with yourself and your mind starts rambling. You end up begging the driver to stop in some random ass place just so you can touch the ground and get some air...kind of like rec time in prison, just nowhere as bad...NOWHERE!!! (in no way do I want you to think that touring is anyway equal to prison, but I had to compare it to something)
After whatever drive we took to get to the next city more bullshit starts. The tour mgr makes sure everyone is on the same page. But low and behold some niggas have made their own plans and all types of dumb shit that have nothing to do with the schedule at hand.
