Current mood:  sad
"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." -Hunter S. Thompson

So on that note I give you this: PROFANE IS FUCKING DEAD!!

We have had a tough time recently with the departure of our bro Mr Steve Rooney, and have been trying hard to pick up the pieces. Unfortunately Doy has decided that that he wants to give more time to pursuing other things in his life. He is our brother and we have to support his decision, however rather than limp on we have decided to let profane die. It just seems like the right thing to do.

This is quite possibly the worst time in the history of the music industry to be in a band, but we had a good innings, we made some good music, and probably some truly terrible music, but that’s for you to decide. Some of us will do other things, some of us already are doing other things, and some of us may not, only time will tell I guess, but we will keep you up to date.

There are a hell of a lot of people and bands that were awesome to us, far too many to mention without forgetting some of you and no doubt really pissing you off, but there are a few extra special people that we want to mention, because without them this probably would have ended a long time ago. So mad MAD props to: Steve Rooney,  Alex Wright, Carl Sharrocks, John O’ Connor, Neil Mellor, Rob Norton, Rich Knox and the Gizeh posse, The mighty Wilzyx, Gary Kilroy, Mark Palmer, Andy Giblin, John Rees, Rennie and Todd (Starkweather), Louise Brown, Katie P, Marie G.C, Chris Hidden, All @ Terrorizer, Kerrang, Rock Sound & Metal Hammer.

All of you lovely people that let us crash at your houses and fed us, hooked us up with green and were generally cool, you will never truly know how much it was appreciated. Thank you!

We will be putting some of the tracks we demoed and the Maida Vale session up on the player for download, to say thanks to you all. We are also gonna put some nice Video stuff together from all the hard work that Alex at Fata morgana did with the Visuals.

Lastly MASSIVE thanks to all of you, for ever taking the time to check us out, for buying the C.D or a shirt. You helped keep us going, and your comments will always mean the world to us. We had some of the most amazing times together, and none of us will ever forget them.

Love to you all,

Profane. X X X

I despise Mondays to begin with; and, now, this? Damn it. I wish all of you the best and hope you continue to make music in some capacity. You guys offer a ton of creativity in terms of playing, writing and are a group of downright fantastic people. Be well and keep in touch. -rennie

Sad news, but not surprising given the situation and (as you said) current climate of the music business; I quit Rancour at the start of the year as I felt it going that way even then.

Full respect for keeping going as long as you did, one of the few bands I've honestly never heard a criticism of in the local scene, and it's a pleasure knowing you guys.

Well what can i say, i am quite literally heartbroken :'(.  I know youve had a rough ride of late, and as you quite rightly say, the music industry appears to be in decline at present.  You songs were truly inspiring to me, and all i can say is you were a truly amazing band, esp live.....
Take care guys, this must have hit you real hard.....thinking of you....love and hugs....
This is gonan take some time to sink in......

Thanks for the kind words. After Steve left,  so did Doy, and after all the shit this band had been through over the past few years we just didn't have the energy to continue. I have always said we were fucking cursed, and i still think it to be true.

I started playing with Luke in 1995, and under the name Profane since 1997, so this band was a huge part of my life. I sacrificed a lot for it, and i wouldn't change a thing. I've met some of the most amazing people, one big thing for me was all the love we got from Rennie & Todd from Starkweather. You were a massive influence on me and my friends in the late 90's and then to have such a good show with you & Amen ra and then to keep speaking to you guys was a real big thing for me, so thank you. There is so much good stuff, the shows with Shai Hulud, the early day's in the Hardcore scene right up to paying the Academy 1 in Manchester.

Myself, Luke & Darryll will do something in the future, but for now i think we need time to greive.

Thanks for everything everybody ever did for us, it really did mean the world to us.

If your interested myself and luke are concentrating on our other band, From the Kites Of San Quentin which you can check out over at www.myspace.com/kitesglitch

Hushabye & Goodnight,

Phil

Hey guys,

So sorry to hear that you've decided to call it a day. I will definitely remember your friendship towards myself and the other guys that made up Interlock.
Another good UK band bites the dust. But I'm sure we'll see you back with something equally great.

Much respect.

damn and fucking damn it again!!
dudes,if i could i would give you all i have if it meant you would continue!
I met Neil from Amplifier in Mancs shortly after you bringing out TDWSTS,and he was so fucking proud that his name was on the "thank you" list!!
After leaving Neil i went from the oxford across to big hands waiting to meet lampy for a few beers.
the bar was near empty at that time of the day so i sat on one of the couch's had a good chug of an excellent German lager, and whacked on your cd on my player.

did'nt quite know what to expect from you,but after 10 minutes i was near in tears with joy at the thought that i was listening to the future of heavy music in this pub!!

I dont know what to say right now or say how i feel at this news, but completely gutted and sick to the teeth of money mad bastards who dont give a shit for the art that has been created. The way bands are treated is a fucking joke!!
I got a sweet pic of Sel,myself and Phil on my kitchen wall taken in the oxford, and that night i met 3 of the band and each was a gentleman that took the time to talk to a drunk paddy about their music and where they hoped it would bring them to.
I wish nothing but the best for all of you guys and the next time i pass the thirsty scholar,i hope to meet some of you for a beer.

here's to the future.....

Brendan.

GOD FUCKING DAMNIT.

Worst fucking news of the day... :(

My life is now incomplete due to the fact that I never got to see you guys live. This makes me seriously saddened to hear of this news.

I do have to thank you guys for all the hard work you put in through these last four or so years. You were quite possibly one of the most sincere and fresh bands I had the pleasure of knowing. I'll never forget the great tunes you brought us Profanatics, and I now feel even more lucky to have both versions of "The Day We Scorched the Sky" when they were available (respectively).

You'll be missed for sure -- and even more so, we won't forget you, even long after you've gone away.

Always and forever a major fan,

- Aaron

P.S., PHIL, YOU FUCKING RULE. I hope your knee's healing up successfully!

This utterly sucks balls,  yet another dark day in Metal!  Allerjen supported Profane at the Roadhouse in Manchester in 2005, it was my debut on drums & I'll never forget how you guys showed us how to play Metal properly!

All the best to y'all, take it easy.

Respect,
T

Too bad guys, must be a real bitch to deal with after all these years. Im thinking back now to our first gig together - Manchester Boardwalk, 1998, Profane, Senior Deluxe (hiatus) and another band called Degenerate? Fuck those were the days, when all you had was coloured flyers to promote gigs...steel dragon style!
good luck all of you guys anyway

Easy,

Thanks to everyone of you for everything. We are all getting on with our lives it seems. Personally i'm buisier than ever, with a new band www.myspace.com/kitesglitch with Luke. I'm also putting on a club night in manchester which launches in october so if any of you peeps are intersted in Experimental hip hop, future dub & electronica go check out www.myspace.com/thiscityisoursmcr or have a search on facebook.

Doy's up to some dumb shit and Steve i haven't spoken to in ages, but we need to catch up so i'll let you know. our little Diz is about to start doing some awesome stuff and we'll be doing stuff in the future i'm sure.

Anyways take it easy and thanks again.

Phil.
