My daughter, my sweet beautiful daughter will turn 32 tomorrow. Tonight I remember her accidently falling out of the truck when she was five. I slammed on the brakes. She opened the door and climbed back and said in a matter of fact voice, "I fell out." I was so relieved she was safe that I cried.
I remember her being so happy that my grandmother made her an Easter bunny suit for her school play and a butterfly coocoon for the next years play. She had the best costumes.
I remember her sneaking off down by the river to secretly smoke with her new cool older friend.
I remember boy after boy and her declaration of love each time. I remember the one quiet boy who's look said all I needed to know. This was the boy who would take care of her and my grandchildren.
I remember her calling me from Arkansas saying you better get your ass back her now the baby is coming. I remember getting there just in time to hold my daughter's hand while the most hairy thing I've ever seen popped out, Then I saw she was beautiful.
I remember the second one a few years later coming out a little harder, but just as beautiful.
I remember April 24, 1976 is and was the best day of my life.
