...Doesn't look very good. And he didn't win. I felt really bad for him. Like the Academy was digging his grave so that all he had to do was fall into it. I didn't see The Last King Of Scotland. I heard a lot of folks talk about how great Forest Whitaker was but I never heard anyone say how good the movie was. Quite the opposite. I'm sure Venus was much the same.

I don't get how Martin Scorsese won Best Director for The Departed. I thought it was a sympathy vote until it won Best Picture too. Now, granted I saw the film after all the hype, but I've seen Martin Scorsese films. I've had my cinematic sensibilities altered and permanently imprinted by Martin Scorsese films. The Departed made no impact on me whatsoever except a general wash of confusion.

I'd have sex with Helen Mirren. A lot.

I thought Elen Degeneres did a good job hosting.

Today I'm going to get tickets for The Police concert at Dodger Stadium (along with every other citizen of L.A., Orange, Ventura, and Riverside Counties as well). I'm going to spend more money that I have ever conceived of on these tix but I'm weirdly o.k. about that. If The Smiths ever announced they were reuniting for a concert tour I'd do the same. This event will be totally ephemeral but there's always the possibility of new material. Spending some time together, finding their groove again, maybe jamming some. Sure its their hits they'll be playing in concert but how could guys as creative and prolific as they are refuse the muse? I'm going to look at this world tour as the precurser to another studio effort. Maybe a new album and another world tour to follow?
Currently watching:
Looney Tunes - Golden Collection, Volume One
Release date: 28 October, 2003

Is it awesome that I agree with absolutely everything you said, or rather, wrote in this blog because it's true and we together make up 100% of the cool population on this planet?

Is it awful that I agree with absolutely everything you said, or rather, wrote in this blog because maybe it means I have no identity?

Life's questions, man. Either way, you're the best!

It´s not necessary that I mention tittles, all we know that Scorsese has done great films, but The Departed is not one.

In my opinion. It´s a bad-made remake: they took the strong points of the script and put it into a new story. Mark Wahlberg did it very nice; but Nicholson... What have you become?

An Oscar... Why? In my country we say: 'Por pena' (for a pity). But two... I dare to laugh.

Watched the Oscars here too (til 12:30 a.m. thank you very much!...LOL) and I have to say I'm with you on the Scorcese director victory because of the sympathy vote (much in the same way Paul Newman finally received his for Color of Money!?!?

I cannot weigh in, however, on the movie itself winning.  I just know that I have not seen it, nor will I.  It's a bit childish actually, but I gotta be me.  My cousin Jimmy had a small part in the movie (non speaking...but hey it would've been his FIRST movie role!) and he was very excited.  They were supposed to fly him to Boston and then at the last minute, they decided that to save some money, they'd hire local Boston area actors.  Ok, I get that.  Then I find out that they're filming part of the movie a few blocks away from me in BROOKLYN (and if the crew can be believed, the scenes they were shooting were supposed to be Boston!).  So explain to me WHY my cousin couldn't be used in a capacity in this film while filming here! (I also heard that they flew in local Boston actors to NY for this...confusing ain't it?!)

Anyway...back to reality.  I also though Ellen did a great job hosting (LOL...she even got injured!  Apparently catching that tambourine/playing it was not as easy as it looked...she had to ice down her hand after that!).

Wow...The Police back on tour.  Tickets went on sale here today...but alas...I'm broke as usual so guess I'll have to try and win some tickets from a local radio station.  I went to their Synchronicity tour in 1983 (I think) at Shea Staduim...man I'm OLD!!!!!!!!!

So....next year do we see a nomination for Nathan Baesel in BTM?!  Time will tell!

of the nominated films this year, The Departed was the best i saw.  it was actually the only film i saw other than Clerks II. what, no Kevin Smith love from the Academy?

sorry to dash your Smith's hopes, but to quote Morrisey on his outlook for a reunion, "I'd rather eat my own testicles". not too promising!

The NORMANN-D Invasion!

I can agree with you about Scorsese, man, with two words: TAXI DRIVER. What real credibility the Academy had died for me, when that film did not win for Best Picture. That was the movie that, for me, stands as the Prime Example of what the power of filmmaking is all about.

I am so stoked for you that you got Police tickets. I tried the same thing here with Genesis, but the show sold out in minutes.  Oh, well, I do have tickets for Taylor Hicks next month...(LOL). Maybe I'll give it another shot if Sting and Co. announce a date or two for the D.C. area.

Oh! Now I remember why I stopped by!

BTM...abso-fuckin'-lutely AWESOME! I look forward to seeing what all you guys do next. A lot.

L8er,

Don Normann

I'd have sex with Helen Mirren. A lot.

So you feel like that do you???

Did you see SHADOWBOXER with her and Cuba Gooding Jr?

I'll have to agree, but sadly The Departed was one of the better DVD releases lately.  And it's getting harder and harder to justify spending my few spare dollars at the theaters.  300 was interesting enough.  But I did find myself thinking about the actual film making etc, effects, blue screen/green screen stuff instead of focusing on the film.  Maybe I watch too many movies?

(free video rentals will do that to a person I suppose)

I actually heard someone say the other day after Peter O'Toole was on a late night talk show, that they had no idea who he was.  That broke my heart just a little bit.

As for your Police Tickets!  Do IT!!! There is nothing like a night of GREAT MUSIC.

I'm not much of a fan of the Oscars. Scorcese deserved an Oscar before, but certainly not for The Departed. I personally think that he should have won for Raging Bull. Peter O'Toole looks bad, but I'm sure he doesn't feel it with all of the dry martinis he continues to slarp.
