DESIDERII MARGINIS performs exclusive very special grand piano performance at
Le Salon d?Esprit- Edition VIII in Utrecht, Netherlands the 26th of April. Due to this occasion we will make a special Desiderii Marginis weekend (beginning now). All albums available for 99SEK - download at 75SEK unto April the 20th.

DESIDERII MARGINIS
Internationally renowned Swedish dark ambient/modern classical and experimental industrial act DESIDERII MARGINIS has been confirmed as the centre piece act at the Edition VIII entitled Vacuum of Isolation of the Utrecht, The Netherlands based experimental and performance platform Le Salon d?Esprit.

Johan ? Desiderii Marginis ? Levin is set to perform a one-off exclusive very special show featuring tracks from across his body of work especially arranged for and executed on grand piano with synths/electronics.

This very special Desiderii Marginis show on grand piano marks a world?s first and will be quite an intimate experience as Theater Kikker (Small Hall) has a limited capacity of just 70 visitors. Therefore: this is a unique chance to not only get up-close with a live concert by one of the best forces in dark ambient, but also to witness a truly special one-off exclusive grand piano performance by Desiderii Marginis.


MENDEL KAELEN
At Edition VIII ? Vacuum of Isolation Le Salon d?Esprit also presents Dutch ambient/field recordings mastermind Mendel Kaelen. With a skilful balance between field recordings, experimental minimalism and ambient electronics Kaelen weaves soundscapes of utter chills, emptiness and beauty.

Kaelen is currently preparing for Zero Point, a theatre performance/sound installation in collaboration with theatre director Saskia Jeulink and theatre designer Joanne van Bladeren. Zero Point is a performance about creation and transformation and will be performed at the internationally known Oerol theatre festival this summer.

At Le Salon d?Esprit ? Edition VIII an excerpt of Zero Point will be showcased as both debut and try-out.

FOCUS ON DESIDERII MARGINIS

Le Salon d?Esprit - Edition VIII ? Vacuum of Isolation bears the subtitle: That Which is Tragic and Timeless. This infamous quote and mission statement of American artist Mark Rothko sets the mood, red thread and stage for this edition of Le Salon d?Esprit. It too is the title of one of Desiderii Marginis?s albums. Because of the shared passion for Rothko and emotional resonance with his mission-quote Le Salon d?Esprit has invited Desiderii Marginis to perform the centre piece show at Edition VIII.


Far too often we forget how art can dark the world?s mirrors to let in stronger light.

Desiderii Marginis was formed in 1993 in Mjölby, Sweden by Johan Levin as a solo-project. After some very low-key demo tapes the debut album Songs over Ruins was released on the infamous and respected Swedish Cold Meat Industry record label in 1997. From then on Desiderii Marginis has been one of the most highly respected and regarded acts in the field of dark ambient with modern classical and experimental industrial influences and touches.
Desiderii Marginis not only uses synths, keyboards and other electronics, Johan Levin is a true multi-instrumentalist playing piano, guitars, bouzouki, dulcimer, bombarde, flutes and shawn. Apart from his musical career and his work at the archaeology department of the Provincial Museum of Östergötland, Sweden, Levin has a keen interest for history, medieval art and architecture, calligraphy, philosophy and archaeology among others. Levin ranks Mark Rothko as one of his, if not his most beloved artist.

With Desiderii Marginis Levin has touched upon and incorporated not only many different instruments and musical styles, but also a wide array of influences and his interests and he has paid tribute to Mark Rothko by means of the massive and impressive masterpiece record That Which is Tragic and Timeless.
The dreamlike eerie or distorted reality moods and vibes emanating from Desiderii Marginis (meaning: The Edge of Dreams) go hand in hand with an almost natural peace and ease with which the listener takes the soundscapes straight to heart and soul. Although the sounds are sometimes quite artificial, industrial even or experimental Desiderii Marginis never misses a beat to impress as a second nature closeness in warmth, humane character and deeply felt emotional impact ? like the sonic equivalent of a warm embrace full of memories: a precious sense of true belonging and utter homecoming in sound and soul; in your very own dreams.
From 1997 onwards Desiderii Marginis has released seven full length albums and appeared on numerous compilations. His albums have been released by Beast of Prey, Koasthetik Konspiration and most notably Cold Meat Industry, where Desiderii Marginis ranks amongst the label?s most well-known and most beloved acts.
Epic, melodic, dark and upliftingly light at the same time, ambient and classical, emotionally touching and moving and chillingly industrial Desiderii Marginis above all is the one and true act evoking brilliantly sounds of: sadness in splendour or- that which is tragic and timeless in a sense of vacuum of isolation.

Seven Sorrows is the sixth album by the renowned swedish dark-ambient project Desiderii Marginis, and a most eagerly awaited follower to the highly acclaimed album of 2005, That Which Is Tragic And Timeless. With the material on Seven Sorrows Johan Levin, the mind behind Desiderii Marginis, has dug deeper than ever before within the creative depths and so ventures even further into the darklands of dispair and solitude, deeper into the vibrant shadows of the human mind. Since the very debute in 1993, Desiderii Marginis has, with every new offering, refined and reinvented the trademark sound, and this release is no exception to the rule. Strummed guitars and dulcimers blend seamlessly with soaring strings, raging drones, the sound of twisted metal and spoken word. Desiderii Marginis was formed in 1993 and is the spawn and emotional outlet of Johan Levin, who is also the sole member. The musical hallmark of this act can best be described as eerie dark-ambient, often on an almost epical scale, sadness in it?s splendor. These things are also the subject matter of Desiderii Marginis? songs in general -?That which is tragic and timeless?.

The american painter Mark Rothko once said that art should deal primarily with ?that which is tragic and timeless?. For this release Desiderii Marginis decided to pick up this idea ? not as a dogma or rule, but rather like a distant echo, encapsulating and encompassing everything that I have ever tried to accomplish in terms of music. Epic sounds of solitude - music as comfort and refuge, as a mirror of all the shortcomings and flaws that constitutes the human nature. The ordinary world is explored, mapped and claimed. - Strife CD


The Desiderii Marginis album ?Strife? is, as the name implies, a sort of reflection over the rather pityful human desire to engage in all kinds of conflict. Everywhere and always.

There is admittedly a healthy aspect of conflict or competition ? the clash of ideas, ideologies, opinions and the like. But often strife takes the form of mere pointless destruction for no purpose. That particular lack of meaning is what this album is all about. ?War is a continuation of politics? von Clausewitz wrote in the 1830?s. But if there?s no political visions to realize, no higher goal to pursue, no new beginning, no rebirth, then what? Guns go silent only to discover that nothing has really been accomplished. Old structures of injustice remain, recent conflicts are added to old ones.
Does this sound depressing? I think it is.

The music on this album is not intended to sound like the blazing guns of a world at war. It is what it is simply because these kind of thoughts went through my head as the music was made. I have had no ambition to address any particular issue, I?m definitely not trying to promote, or badmouth, any political or ideological points of view. Politics are firmly rooted in the present. Strife itself is eternal. The music is, as always, a strictly personal way to deal with and express the ever present madness of man.

- Deadbeat CD


Mjölby: hick town, epicentre of Swedish counter-culture, a power-plant transmitting anti-art currents over the national grid. Home of the legendary deathseekers Brighter Death Now, of the infamous scatologist Raison d'Etre, and not least of the decadence afficionado Desiderii Marginis. If the latter's debut album, 'Songs Over Ruins', had been a movie, it would've been a perfect illustration of a "sleeper"; a release with a slow start, subsequently gaining momentum by word of mouth, finally a desirable product selling out. It seems more than mere chance that the long overdue repress coincides with the release of the second offering from Desiderii Marginis, 'Deadbeat'. This title, that reeks of self-irony, shouldn't be taken literally as emblematic of Desiderii's position within the CMI family; on the contrary, 'Deadbeat' once again proves head honcho Karmanik's flair for finding new talent. 'Deadbeat' is Desiderii Marginis' magnum opus, a bewitching tale from a midwintery Sweden veiled in darkness, firmly maintaining their ranking among the upper crust of the Mjölby avantgarde.

Listening to Desiderii Marginis is like travelling in time, back to the days when you first discovered CMI and instantly became enchanted. By watching and learning from old mages like Raison d'être and Morthound, Johan Levin has aggregated different styles, but eventually the music is still distinguished by his highly personal touch. Close your eyes, and find yourself moved to desolate windswept forests - where mist lingers around leafless branches, moonbeams just barely break through, and distant howls both entice and frighten. These are emotions so familiar and so novel at the same time, evoked by classic CMI material that both looks back and points forward.
