Current mood:  disappointed
We were extremely sorry to have had to postpone the shows in Belgrade and Zagreb.

At the Croatian border, the Customs officials refused us entry, when coming in from Slovenia. In their opinion, our musical equipment was not our personal equipment (yes it is, who else should it belong to?) and thus we would need special export documentation or pay a large amount of money. Staff at the border were being very tough with cars coming through, that morning, and we suspect it was a question of being there at the wrong time. We have been told by all the promoters we know in both countries that, something like this happens very rarely with bands coming into Croatia or Serbia. The only suggestion from Croatian Customs was that we drive around Croatia and enter Serbia through Hungary, a distance of 800km. This would not have guaranteed entry nor would it have solved the problem of getting back through Croatia. Had we driven around, we wouldn't have made it in time for the Belgrade show anyway and there was a risk that it would affect all the following days. We waited in Slovenia while the promoter in Zagreb and our Tour Manager worked all day trying to find a solution to get us through. Unfortunately, this didn't work out, though the Zagreb promoter deserves a medal for the long hours he spent at the border, as well as on the phone, trying to make it happen.

We have spoken with both promoters about rescheduling the shows and are working on suitable dates.

Again, our sincerest apologies to anyone affected.

regards,
Ronan and Mark

Josh

Bureaucracies. It's incredible what effect a badge and a set of shoulder boards has on some people.

You should have set up all your equipment on the border and played Procession really, really loud!

Hi Ronan, Bane from San Diego here. We have chatted at the Dark Dance Treffen in Lahr and I am definitely NOT surprised this happened since the officers at these borders are notorious for their unpredictable behavior.  I am originally from that part of the world and owning Real Estate in Croatia and Montenegro, I and others do encounter these problems on a regular basis.
Furthermore, I am surprised that your promoters there did not foresee a potential issue with the "Bringing In " of this kind of equipment and prepared for it accordingly.
Sorry to hear this happened. Have fun on the rest of the tour

Sounds like something to write a song about... except my suggestion would be to add some deeper international intrigue, weapons dealings and a Playboy-model-spy...

There is a point where diligence just flat out becomes zealotry and that is what we have here it seems.  Props to your promoters for working that hard for you and yours.

Small afterthought.  Though it's clear that the customs officials were in the wrong, I suppose it's at least commendable that they take their job seriously, as it is an important station, albeit far too seriously in this case.

I love your band and have had the great opprotunity to see you both live in St. Petersburg in Florida. There was an after party @ the Castle in 2007 and my friends and I had a remarkable time! You guys were so willing to interact with everyone. So sorry to hear about the trouble with the border/customs. Your team is awesome to work so hard to try to get you to your fans. Best of luck on the rest of the tour, <3 Sharon <3

Ack!

Damn that stinks. I never heard of officials being THAT picky when it came to equipment, unless something was brewing around there like thefts or robberies involving such.

I'm very sorry that this happened, I was hoping for the show too. I still have my ticket and I heard that we'll see you on 13th Dec.

Being a performer myself and crossing border I think that it is still an error on the side of organization that didn't inform you on required documents. Croatia is not an EU country so there is stiff border both ways - for us entering EU and vice versa. One must have so called ATA Carnet: http://www.atacarnet.com/ .

Under 'personal equipment' classification only one synth per person is allowed.

I hate bureaucracy too, and crossing borders makes me puke but there they are and, unfortunately, we must live with that until we see the world with no borders and funny people asking stupid questions about our own synths making our lives harder then it should be. Hoping that this will happen soon :).

I'm thankful that you didn't give up on us and that we will enjoy your show here in Zagreb.

All the best and CU soon

Goran

My dad's from Croatia and I've experienced the same thing over and over again allthough we always manage to pass the border but only after several hours of them calling, checking, making sure .. re-checking. Terrible really, especially just because of equipment ... Take care.
