Current mood:  ashamed
Category: Life

Just been thinking about the state of things, what ever happened to birminghams rock scene when all the genres of the rock scene supported each other? When anyone who was anyone and that means the joe bloggs down the road to the performers in a band didnt bitch about each other and stab each other in the back, they just came out and enjoyed the music and the drink and the good company.

Every one was there, not just for the music, but for the spirit of our own way of life everyone made a stand for what they stood for be it punk, rock, goth, metal or any other different kind of sound and we stood together as outcasts as some would say cause we were different, set aside from the norm.

Day in and day out i hear people bitch about the state of things, how theres no where to go, nowhere for us to be us but i dont see these people doing anything about it.

You've got Costers ,the Black Horse and Scruffy Murphys all still standing and yes we might be short of a few things but without you the people behind us what the hell do you expect?

Or are you all waiting for another closer so you can mourn and bitch about the life we love dissapearing. Why have we all gotta wait for remembrance nights when you still got places to go? Its you the people that make the places you go  work and if you want them to still be here in a few years time its you that have gotta support what you've got left or yes they're gonna go and it wont be down to the management,  it'll be down to you.

Hands up to REHAB, at least they're trying to pull it all back together and make the scene a SCENE again by working with all the different pubs, but its still all down to you the people to come out and support what they are doing, so bare it in mind next time you wanna bitch and moan and go home at 6 cuz theres no where to go ,its you that are shutting the doors......

You know it's funny, I work at the Black Horse. And f***ing hell, Rehab are actually working towards making it better. BUT people just don't seem to mix anymore.

You know Costers used to be my home, it's unfortunate i don't get down there very often anymore.
But does anyone remember when we all used to say hi to each other? and were all on the same level?!?

For the people that work at Black Horse, Costers and Scruffies, yes we do pretty much know everyone. But that doesnt stop you talking to other people, or atleast respecting them for themselves. Rather than a big pissing contest, do i think i'm more important than anyone else? not at all, i know people because i make an effort to say hi. Or hell speak to a mates mate....

We had a gig the other day, and people were just beating the crap out of each other trying to prove a point. Whats the point?! My message to people that don't appreciate what we used to have.
GROW UP, please, help us all ut, you don't have to be loyal to one pub, we all know there are other pubs where other people might be!

Fair play to you man for speaking out where the rest of us have neglected to of late.

WELL FUCKING SAID!!

The problem you've got here is the only ones reading this are the ones who share the ethos...the staff of the pubs (and lil ppl like me) who ARE trying to pull it all together. The ones you need to hit it out at are the lazy b*stards who sit at home, on their arses, bemoaning the lack of Brum's scene..Brummies have always been notoriously lazy at moving from in front of their TV's...and they ENJOY commiserating at their "dead" pubs, they feel they WERE part of something and "it ain't the same anymore"........I HATE this coz in a way they're right, it ain't the same.

But you know why it ain't the same? Coz its BETTER now than its ever been and I feel I'm AM in a position to judge and compare - having the last 20 odd years of "scene" behind me, but people moaning are mostly older ones who don't like change, or who are too scared to go out and mix with a few "scene yoofs" - and these yoofs are who we need to encourage to keep the scene alive..."Adapt and Grow, Stagnate and Die!"

I personally get bored sitting in a pub with a bunch of old farts moaning about how good it used to be - open your eyes you miserable gits >:-)

We currently have some of the best pubs that we've EVER had, but people like to stay in and watch..oooh what's the latest crap ... x-factor? (I dunno I do Brum Scene, not TV) but our clubs suck.....the Academy? wooo, mass-produced, over-priced crap...the Newt? Dying on its feet coz there are too few "supporters" (yes I do feel guilty for being too busy to go anymore >:-(()

I dunno how to do more to change things, short of physically kicking ppl up the ass, but it all needs to get out to people somehow....I vote, huge billboards, erected in the middle of the night with ALL the pubs listing their gigs/events/nights, on ONE billboard..demonstrate unity >:-)

Oh and thanks for the kind words about Rehab, you've no idea how much they mean to me - even an idea needs support.

/lecture over

Donna >:-)

unfortunately i have to agree with Donna, except with one important difference. instead of bilboards, giant tattoos on everyone......except then stupid whiny people would complain the it wasn't origianal enough.............oh s**t ye........there goes that idea of well conformity? or unity for the sene right..........my bad!!

I know its a bit late but just came across this!

Couldnt agree more with whats already been said.

There are lots of rock places now to be honest. It does seem tough to get people out to gigs, but my mind set is "No one is gonna come to you, you gotta go to them" and thats the only way.

Me and the guitarist from our band have long discussed that clubs should unite in the same area's. It just makes complete sense, if your both promoting a metal night on the same night, your gonna split the people. Whereas if you work together and share diff nights etc everyone's a winner!! the bands and the venues will get more people in for the specified night.

Great to hear that someone still gives a shit!
If we lived in B'ham we'd be down there all the time, but we're from wolves so we usually end up in the giff or planet, but we'll be down costers this saturday =]

Keep it goin!!
