BALLET FLORIDA CANCELS PERFORMANCES FOR REMAINDER OF 2008 - 2009 SEASON

Ballet Florida has announced the cancellation of the remainder of its 2008 - 2009 Season, which applies to performances at the Amaturo Theater of Broward Center on April 4 - 5, the Duncan Theater on April 24 – 25, and the Eissey Campus Theater on May 1-3. The Academy of Ballet Florida will continue its normal operations for the academic year.

The Board of Directors are committed to the restructuring of the Company and performances will resume December 23 – 28, 2009 with the 18TH Annual production of Marie Hale’s The Nutcracker at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. This holiday tradition will kick off the 24 Season. The 2009 – 2010 Season will include world premieres by Ben Stevenson, Ma Cong, Ron de Jesus, and Jerry Opdenaker.

Recent circumstances outside the Company’s control have brought unforeseen financial challenges that would have damaged the artistic integrity of Ballet Florida should the Company have continued with its performances this season. “We wish to thank the City of West Palm Beach, Mayor Frankel, the City Commissioners, and the CRA for their efforts towards a partnership with Ballet Florida and are disappointed that they were not able to go forward at this time.” said Juan J. Escalante, President & CEO.

Subscription or single tickets to any of the affected performances will be credited towards any of the 2009 – 2010 Season performances.
