And everyone will raise a glass and start again... my love may have changed shapes, but it’s still here now... and write that letter that declares, “You don’t own me, I will tear my heart out of my chest, put it on my sleeve”... I can’t seem to master the inflection to properly deliver the extent to which you’re unreal...I made a little deal with myself that I’ll be brave when this goes down...
My sincere and very humble thanks to Jamie Henkensiefken and all members of H Is For Hellgate for their role in the creation and/or performance of their eponymous first album - the first locally-produced piece of music to truly speak to me since my return to Seattle in 2005.
Whatever words I tried to write on your behalf were not enough, my still photos and video footage never properly captured the energy best described by Ben Baier as "Hooray", and by blurring the defining lines of my appreciation for your art with my friendship, I fear that you might have missed what I want you all to understand...
I judge the taste of my supposed contemporaries by whether they "get" Hellgate's first album or not. That shit was tight.
