I've been caining "Oh No You Didn't", Dj A-Trak's new mix cd from Vancouver for the last 4 months and more recently, The Rub's "Its the Motherfucking Remix Volume 2.1" and when I heard they were coming to town to play with The Rub, I was estatic!! A-Trak's mad cutting styles and ever fresh cuts and The Rub's creative mashup vibes and soulful selection of top 40 hits mixed with classic old skool jams, underground hits and sprinkles of funk soul, is seamless and as fresh as a pair of woven nike air trainers.
The night kicked off with me and the ladies heading over to the Empty Bottle after a few drinks at Moonshine. We got to the bottle because I was worried it would sell out, did I mention I've been obsessed with these cds? ;)
After a few $2 honey browns, my feet were doing the talking as I enjoyed the mashup of tracks, one sick track after another...the night started out with Dj Ayers and Cosmo Baker warming up the decks for A-Trak with some hiphop cuts and soul/funk...when A-Trak went on, it was essentially the same performance of his CD, but live. His stage performance was on point and he makes juggling records look so effortless as he just stares out into the crowd at people with a smile on his face in the most complicated parts of his set. He would take breaks and The Rub would come back on.
Cosmo Baker and Ayers would playing everything from Lil Jon Feat - Stick That Thang Out mixed with Spankrock, Chemical Brothers - Harder, Better Faster, some more Bmore hits off the hollertronix ablum, some french electro track...towards the end we heard some disco tracks, and some classic chicago house music.
It was a fantastic night and I got a chance to meet Ayers for a minute with Ralph aka Major Taylor. He was kind and gave me some cds and "The Rub" paraphernalia. THANK YOU. To top off the night there were two guys behind us ladies for most of the show and it turned out I went to high school with one of them. It was wonderful to reconnect with him at the show. Overall, it was a wonderful night thanks to the mad vibes The Rub and A-Trak spawned.
To top off the wicked memeories of that show, its been archived on The Fader website. My friend hit me up on aim and told me I was on the site. So peep the wonderful times we had at the show and the adventures A-Trak and The Rub are having:
