Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for The Most Beautiful Losers?
Brad: I think 2008, for Chris and I, was a year fulfilling the expectations of our determination that we had built up over the years. 2008 was tough year but a great one. We had a lot of trials and changes but we gained love and collaborations with some great people that are now family such as Sammy and Ben.
Sammy: Well for me, I would have to say it was a tremendous year for us... I started 2008 as a roadie for the band and we found out I could play the guitar, and it turned a three piece into a four piece... That then inspired us to write new material and put out "Wreckage".
Isaac: Describe the music scene in Canton, Ohio.
Brad: Is there a music scene in Canton? lol. All I know about the music scene of Northeast Ohio is that there are hundreds of metal bands and us.
Sammy: Well, it's a tough scene here in Canton. It's over saturated with metal and cover bands... The few bands of other styles have to fight to be heard... That's why we have opened our own venue. It's called "Old Glory" and is a DIY venue to help promote all other great bands... We also try to bring as much music from all over the states to our city... "Sometimes you have to build a scene!"
Ben: Non existent. It's tragic almost because there was a good scene with original bands in Canton. Now it's just cover bands and people who don't get it. There is so much musical talent in the area but really nowhere for it to be nurtured or discovered. Cover bands aren't bands... they are entertainment. Sorry. It's just way too pretentious. We're here cause we love it and that goes for all the locals.
Isaac: So far, what has been the biggest reward that the band has received in 2009?
Chris: I would have to say our "West of The Mississippi" Tour in April was my personal biggest reward so far this year. It has been something I have always wanted to do and even though crowds were sparse and we all were miserably sick the whole tour it was an experience I will never forget and was just too much fun!
Brad: I guess the open bar tabs we were given on the mountain tour and the free pizza at Blackthorns Pub in Joplin, Missouri.
Sammy: Getting the new album "Wreckage" put out and touring the states promoting it...
Isaac: How did the band formed originally?
Chris: The band formed in 2003. I had started a new job and met Brad and I was in-between bands and was looking to start an acoustic based alt-country band. That quickly mutated into a rock band. It's been non-stop since then!
Brad: Chris and I worked together. He wanted to start a new band and I said no. I was married and didn't own any equipment. I then got divorced and moved into a building where there happened to be an abandoned bass guitar. Next thing I knew I was over at Chris's in his tiny little kitchen and we started Loser songs.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about the concept behind The Most Beautiful Losers.
Brad: To me, I think it's like the fact that we are all sinners on this planet; we are all losers in some way. Our band is for those that realize this and embrace it.
Sammy: To play great Rock & Roll that others can really relate to... It's so awesome when people thank you afterwards because the songs touched them... Because when they tell me that then I feel blessed to be a part of their life, and I get to thank them back by playing the songs...That's why I started to be a roadie for the band... I never heard my life told so well...lol...
Chris: Music that is fun to see live. It should always be a party or a celebration!
Isaac: This question is for everyone. Elaborate a little about who were your biggest influences in the music industry?
Chris: My biggest influence musically and lyrically is Paul Westerberg and The Replacements, Craig Finn and The Hold Steady, Brent Best and Slobberbone and I love the songwriting of Uncle Tupelo.
Brad: I guess for me, other than the Beatles, my influences are all the musicians, writers, and bands like ourselves; Bands that struggle and work hard to sing their own song. We have met and seen many, many great talents and people in our ventures and that is one of the things that I love most about what we do.
Sammy: Well I would have to say The Clash is my biggest... Then there's many more to follow... Get this... I'm a huge Oi, Punk, Southern Rock, and Classic Country fan... Go figure! I was a confused little boy growing up lol...
Ben: In the industry, anyone who can make it and not sacrifice their artistic integrity. Against Me! One of my favorite bands caught a lot of flack for jumping to a major but the music is still amazing and anyone who is a real musician, in my opinion, wants to make it around the world. If not, then why are you playing? So only a select few can dig your stuff? The industry is so different now anyway so whoever gets it done has my respect.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Brad: I really don't know how describe our music; Never sure how to answer that.
Sammy: Whiskey Soaked Rock & Roll...
Chris: Indie rock with a blue-collar heart.
Isaac: What is your definition for Rock Music?
Sammy: True to your heart lyrics with a sweet sound that you just cant deny... That's Rock & Roll...
Ben: A little less pre rehearsed jumping and a lot more soul. And some distortion defined by the music not the context of the presentation.
Chris: Honest, passionate, and a little rough around the edges but with integrity!
Isaac: What has been the inspiration behind your music?
Chris: Most of my songs are about love and heartbreak and all of the things that get screwed up in a relationship when you are in a band. Some of them are stories that I have heard over the years and I turn them into songs. I have written a few murder ballads...those are fun to do. I think most people can identify with the things I am saying.... getting drunk and feeling sad and missing the girl who stole your heart. It's pretty basic stuff I guess.
Brad: Determination and heartbreak.
Sammy: Women, Whiskey, and Beer!!! To keep it simple...
Isaac: What can fans expect from the 2nd full length album, WRECKAGE? What is the inspiration behind the CD?
Brad: People can expect the same basic message the Losers have sung in the past but with a more raw and intense delivery.
Sammy: A wonderful rollercoaster ride of emotions from start to finish...
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
The Most Beautiful Losers: We can be located at http://www.themostbeautifullosers.com or http://www.myspace.com/mostbeautifullosers
Isaac: What can fans expect from The Most Beautiful Losers in the next five years?
Chris: Our next CD is going to be a double album. We are already working on it. And we also plan to tour extensively.
Brad: Hopefully NOT another list of ex-drummers…lol.
Sammy: Many more drunken nights of impacting lyrics and musical melodies hitting where your heart lies... Whether it is on your sleeve or not...
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Chris: Thank you to all the bands we play with. You guys are the best and we love you!
Sammy: Thank you all for thanking us!!!
Ben: Darling Czar!!!
Isaac: Final words from The Most Beautiful Losers…
Sammy: Up to it! Down to it!
Ben: Always dance like no one is watching.
Chris: Please support independent music. There are so many amazing bands out there that no one ever hears. Please go to shows. Buy merchandise and show some love to all the bands you can! Let yourself fall in love with REAL music! Not the force fed crap you hear on the radio and MTV.
