I picked up Breaking Benjamin’s new album “Dear Agony” the other day.  This is another album that I have been waiting to hear for over 3 years.  Breaking Benjamin is one of my favorite bands and I was really curious how their new album would sound.  Each album seems to be a little different of style.  Call it maturing, growing, or whatever.  “Saturate” their first album is post-grunge, hard chords and heavy chorus.  I was hooked on this band after hearing “Polyamorous” on the radio from “Saturate” years ago.  Their next album “We Are Not Alone” had the hit single “So Cold” which really put them in the mainstream ear.  That album again had the post-grunge sound but was a little more melodic.  Then their third album “Phobia” was a little toned down compared to the two previous albums on most songs but I still like every song on that album a lot.

 ....

So “Dear Agony”…

It does seem that the songs are more of a laid back style.  Not saying that there aren’t heavy chords or chorus but it seems like they don’t feel as heavy as previous albums.  The songs are still great but I think I miss that “Saturate” sound.  Ben Burnley has great vocal range as always.  I feel he has a very original sound especially with the vibrato in previous albums, and is a very great songwriter.  I do like the album but I think it will take some more listens to really grow on me.  My favorite tracks so far are – “Fade Away”, “I Will Not Bow”, “Crawl”, “Lights Out”.  I’m sure I will love all the songs like I have on their previous albums.

So here are videos for Polyamorous – 2002

And for their new single “I Will Not Bow” – featured in the Surrogates movie.
