When is your birthday?
September 30th
How did you get started playing?
In church when I was 8 years old. Actually I did not start playing drums until I was out of high school.
What are your major musical influences?
Playing in church and I got into southern rock music during the 70's and then into country music during the 80's and I kind of blended the three. Seeing anybody on stage always gave me the desire to want to be up there, also.
Do you have a favorite original Deepstep song?
I have three: Burn Atlanta, I'm Still Missing You and Beside You.
What is in your cd player right now?
We have 3 new originals that I have to learn for Cupit Records and I swap it out with Luke Bryan.
If you could play/perform with any other musician who and why?
If they were still alive, I would love to play with Conway and Ronnie Van Zant, and everybody wants to play with Merle, because these guys were and are true to their heart with their music.
Can you describe how the fans' energy relates to your performance?
The fans' energy makes the show what it is. You always try to play great, but their energy adds to ours and makes it unbelievable.
If you were not a musician what would you want to do?
I would like to own a music store and recording studio and work with younger musicians.
What equipment do you use?
I play a 6 piece set of sapphire blue Mapex Pro M drums that sound great. I use Evans heads and Zildjian cymbals and Victor Firth sticks. I also use stick wrap on all of my sticks. I use a Pearl kick pedal. I've got an older deep Slingerland snare that I use occasionally. I also use a percussion block.
What has been your biggest accomplishment personally or musically?
Personally, I was blessed with an incredible family. My wife and two kids support me 100%. Musically, would have to be meeting the four guys that I play with now. We are all best friends and get along great and work very hard at what we do. It is the best situation that I've ever been in musically. Meeting Preshias Tomes Harris, her husband Mike and Jerry Cupit at Cupit Records in Nashville has also been great.
Do you have any pre show rituals or habits?
I usually just sit down and relax because I'm about to work really hard. I usually look at the set list a hundred times; play the songs in my head, and change clothes and shoes.
When you are not playing music what do you like to do?
Go to the beach, watch football, fish, and relax by the pool.
What is your favorite food?
I like everything.
Name a city or venue that you cannot wait to play at?
The Grand Old Opry
Any hidden talents besides great music?
I like to mess around with video editing and some electronics.
