... yeah ... okay ... so there really is no 'category' for this Internet radio ... but trust me ... there is somethiing that a lot webcasters are calling Internet radio ... and you know what ? ... it's working ... at the top of it is 'commercial ... conventional ... traditional radio broadcast operations. Most any station on the air has an Internet presence and inside that presence is their streaming capabilities ( our local Smooth Jazz station www.wloq.com Orlando Florida) thinks theirs is just 'sliced bread' ... I think they are preparing, like most, for this Internet to take on the position that cable did in the late 70's early 80's, with it's ability to 'support' commercial televisions distribution.
But for right now, here we are ... me ? I'm heading towards the 9th year of putting live and pre-recorded content on the Internet in, as close to a radio format, as I can get ... It started when Omar Warsaw asked me if I had seen his new website www.blackplanet.com , and this could have been early in September, 1999. and hahaha ... wow!
A BlackPlanet ... an online community of "people' ... in chat rooms ... and some of us '50 Something' gettin together in the 50Something chat room every nite ... I had a record label and was busy into figuring out how to get some of these artists pictures and tracks on the Internet so that 'one click and bang ... there they are ..."
On the way thru that process I found Real Players Encoder ... that has the capability of 'capturing to a server' ... and that server being able to release the stream to anyone with a pc, and internet connection, soundcard and speaker ... come on ... "WHERE ARE THE STATION PROGRAM DIRECTORS THAT WANT TO HEAR THIS NEW MUSIC WE ABOUT TO 'DROP' ... CLICK THIS <--- !
Oh ... it was crazy ... in come the 'mackie mixer' ... and 2 turntables and another mixer ... and some of the baddest Dj's Long Island had ... for the mid-day mix ... get up on the desk at work and do the desktop boogie ... yeah ... it was crazy.
Nothing like this had happened in the office ... where offices where inter-connected by chat rooms ... calling the hot line ... shouting each other out ... and partying in the chat room ... LIVE! InterActive Internet Radio and Chat ...
And then here I go ... 'old schooled' ... "Friday Nite In The Classic Soul Music Hot Tub"! ... After dark, Quiet Storm music format ... in a chat room (hot tub) ... too much fun ...
Enough fun for this Internet radio to become a very intimate passion ... that I could talk all nite about ...
