Finally, it's here! my hugely anticipated Seven to Save list for 2008!!!
In April 2007 I documented my first "Seven to Save" list here, and guess what, only 6 of those structures are still standing. Hmmph.
This year, I decided to keep it simple and focus entirely on Rope Alley. This is the alley that lies directly north of State Street, but is broken up into sections because the street layout on the north side of Hudson is not as uniform as the south side. (more on this later)
Rope Alley has a wonderful collection of garages, sheds and carriage barns all clustered on the block between Robinson and State Streets.
Painters and photographers love this spot. Much of it is "preserved" because it's not an overly gentrified part of town. My shitty pictures which follow do no justice-- I should have at least picked a magic hour time to shoot these. But the point here is that, as a collection, these structures are worthy of propping up and saving; unfortunatly they're not in a historically designated district, and our laws aren't strict enough to protect them anyway. They are bound to gradually disappear very slowly, and without notice.

This garage cluster is on another less-travelled section of Rope Alley, on the east side of town. Also known as Upper Rope Alley. I took this picture over two years ago.
Here you can see the doors already plywooded over. A tough save, but we hope for the best....
