A Red Letter Day all-age band comps!

Rules and Regulations

The structure of each competition is:

·         Weekly Heats with up to 8 bands competing.

·         The winner of each Heat goes straight into the Semi Final.

·         Bands that place 2nd and 3rd in the Heats, along with one Second Preference Band, get another chance to make it through by going into Wildcard Heats.

·         To qualify as a Second Preference Band, a band must have received at least 5 first preference votes.

·         The initial Heats are judged by the audience. Bands should make sure they have their own supporters in the crowd. INVITE EVERYONE YOU KNOW – you will be surprised who will turn up if you actually ask them!

·         It's an ALL AGE venue, so kids are welcome as well as adults…for teenagers, this is a rare chance for them to see and enjoy live music. IF YOU ARE UNDERAGE, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS HAVE ONE PARENT OR GUARDIAN BRING YOU TO THE GIG.

·         Heat sets are 15-20 minutes long, depending on the call of the stage manager on the night, and originals are preferred.

·         The Finals are judged solely by music industry professionals – a great opportunity to make an impression and network.

·         Bands do not have to pay an entry fee, but each band member is able to buy one entry ticket at the same $10 price as normal audience members. This allows each of them to vote (up to a total of 5 voting cards per band). To take up this option, they need to ask at front desk for a voting card.

·         Door cost for Grand Finals only is $15, but they are exciting nights, and $200 cash can be won if you have attended a Semi Final and bring your Finals Card along!

·         The contest is open to any age and genre. You don't have to be a local resident to enter.

·         Bands are asked to give ample warning to the organizers if they need to cancel or reschedule, or the band will be black-listed for up to 3 months.

Venue details and band requirements:

·         The competition will be held at the venue listed on Burgess Bookings' Myspace calendar.

·         Heats are generally held on a weekly basis on the same day each week, but any variations will also be listed on Burgess Bookings' Myspace calendar.

·         Bands must be at the venue no later than 6.15pm for night time events when doors open to the public at 7pm, and no later than 1.15pm for afternoon events where the doors open to the public at 2pm. This 45 minute period between the arrival of bands and the start of the show is for load in, Stage Manager's meeting with the bands, draw for order of performance and line check.

·         Doors open as per Burgess Bookings' Myspace calendar.

·         Bands draw straws for playing order on the night.

·         What the singers need to know - This is an all ages event please be advised that swearing into the microphone will not be tolerated. Venues do not like offending patrons who bring children with them, so please keep it clean. Remember, no venue means no gig.

·         What the drummers need to know - The drummer will find a basic drum kit is supplied (to enable quick change-overs), but they still do need to bring kick pedal, snare & snare stand, cymbals & cymbal stands, stool & sticks.

·         What the guitarists need to know - Bring your amp, guitar, FX and tuner, and please tune BEFORE going on stage.

·         What everyone needs to know - We do not tolerate abuse of staff, the equipment or the venue building. Any act caught doing something irresponsible will be disqualified from the competition, and possibly banned from further involvement in other A Red Letter Day events.  Performing bands may be penalised or otherwise held responsible for what their fans are doing. A few examples of behaviour that will not be tolerated are:

·         jumping off or standing on the kick drum.

·         climbing jumping on/off speaker stacks.

·         swinging the mic's around by the lead (bring your own mic and lead and we don't mind, but in that case gaff he mic to the lead to avoid someone losing an eye).

·         moshing that involves lifting of people - particularly above the shoulders - if someone falls, a bad injury may occur.

·         No stickers are allowed – we love stickers too, but venue owners hate them, as enthusiastic fans can ruin venues with them, or cause huge cleaning costs that would be billed to the band whose name is on the sticker!

·         Entering this contest is done on the understanding that the band takes full responsibility for any loss or damage that may occur to any property or person involved in the event, as a result of the band's participation. Bands should have their own insurance.
