Any starry-eyed kid dreaming of making a life as a rock 'n' roll star needs to check out this stark reality peep show focusing on the sad life of Saigon Kick and Skid Row drummer Phil Varone. From the supposed glory of an 8-record deal to having a net worth of less than $1.00, Emmy Award-winning director Fabio Jafet culls four years' worth of DV footage of Varone to document the fall and further fall of a kid who once had it all. Most important here is that Jafet depicts the effects that Varone's unchecked lifestyle had, not just on his wallet and his health (the Scarface quantities of cocaine he did messed up his heart), but on his family, too. While it is very cheap and occasionally lacking meat, it is a more credible document than The Metal Years, and more personal, too, with Jafet's biggest accomplishment being that we sympathize with Varone on some levels, even if he is a big, broke, hole-hearted dummy. –David Meyer
