I didn't know Taylor Mitchell personally... but like so many in the Toronto music scene, across the country and worldwide, I've felt her tragic loss deeply.
This is a song I wrote for her that I will be performing at her tribute concert on November 24. Just thought I'd share the lyrics here... since I know many are feeling the same way...
"A Song for Taylor"Young girl, I only knew you from the radio,
But your way with words tells me
You're the kind of girl I'd want to know
Young girl, I only knew you from photographs they took
But the way your eyes were sparkling
Made me stop and take a second look...
If you could see us now, I wonder what you'd say?
That through the pain and all, we've found a way
To see that there will come a brighter day
If you could see us, I know you'd be grateful too
That we're stopping just to thank you
For your music, and being you...
Young girl, I only knew you from stories in the news
But the words the've said about you
Makes me feel the loss, and my soul has been bruised
Young girl, you lived so much in the time that you were here
That although you left too early,
We'll keep learning from you through the months and years...
If you could see us now, I wonder what you'd say?
That through the pain and all, we've found a way
To see that there will come a brighter day
If you could see us, I know you'd be grateful too
That we're stopping just to thank you
For your music, and being you...
