Hi .. Weve just Arrived in DENVER Colorado at the start of our Fall/Forwards tour - doing 15 gigs in 20 days -- its gonna be intense, and my sampler pad got mashed in the plane. so whoopie do ! // well have a cd at the gigs of the egg in london. see you there..
Day 2! Well after arriving in denver jet lagged to the max, we / I thought our equipment didnt work at all, no screens on our pads etc.. funny hums coming out everywhere.. and basically OH Shiiiiiittt! ... Anyway so went of to the deserted Denver art museum by Daniel Libeskind... Crazy building.. Mental AND pointy.. And got to the venue- the cervanties majestic ballroom, in Downtown Denver- all our hired stuff was in huge cardboard boxes to unpack, kind of like christmas.. a bit..If only i could keep that nice sparkly drum kit.. At least its mine for 3 weeks... Anyway , we plugged all our stuff in using US power converters- and it all worked! Stupidly the US hotel power was like , half of what we use.. so ?ok! us Dumb ass brits no nothing... and proud of it.. and the gig was great.. Hector came to see us who'd heard us way back.. we played venice beach to open at his request and he jumped like a loony, so did the crowd, wierd for 12.30 am.. ?! Anyway The gig went OFF ... and some guy painted in time with us.. a bunch of people who'd seen us at camp bisco spread the word, cos the place was full.. got some interviews of the people and a recording off the desk .. nice. 3 hours sleep at the hotel and were currently on a 8 hour drive through Kansas, in the sunshine, in our tour bus- our home for 3 weeks..working our way through last nights rider...Fields and fields of endless corn and grass, a few drilling rigs, really long goods trains, and really straight roads, funny truck stops where all the service shops sell , everything, like gun magazines?!?! and ....... Playing tonight in Lawrence. lets see if we can get all the bits we got wrong last night right, and vice versa!! ...
Day 3 Well Georges at Lawrence was cool as fxxk !! It was sold out, also we played with Bass Nectar, so hes got to take alot of credit for that.... The crowd were amazing.. Thankyou! It felt like a hometown gig.. crowd at the front , glow sticks all over the place.. Then Bass Nectar rocked the joint.. And after we all went to the after party somewhere near the gaslight??!?! anyway it was a cool night . lost my camera but who cares.. met some fun people, bed at dawn up back into the black hole we call our tour van for 4 more hours and then on to.....
Day 4 Coallesence festival, Eureka Springs, Arkansas. 3rd gig in a row and Best gig so far.. it was filmed really well and looked amazing.. so well put up a bit of the movie soon, when we work out how, that is.. Anyway it was a festival. obviously... And it was in a beautiful setting by a lake with some really chilled out dudes...We played venice beach to start could have done the bliss out thing, but ramped it up... After ned (keyboards, vox) and shaun (our 'sound' sound guy) hung out by the fire till 10 the next morning, while the rest of us flaked, We all went off for hardcore massages the next day by some powerful ladies (no not that kind) so I sorted out my baaad shoulder,(too much drumming at a funny angle)- although i also said ' Jesus!' by mistake when she pushed a bit hard.. 'He's alive and well' she said, and pushed harder- but it worked..! and we had a fun day off finishing by learning 9 ball pool at 'chelseas' with the local dudes, who even re opened the kitchen to make philly cheesburgers just for us.. Thankyou.- did a little interview leading up to leaving for Fayetteville, which is :...
Day6 Fayetteville. Georges majestic Lounge currently in the green room which is a kind of portakabin out the back, first chance at using the net...playing later tonight.. watching out for some serious spiders
Well fayetteville was great, as has all the gigs, we ended up staying by a lake and then on to St Louis.. picked up an 8 track hard drive recorder to get some great recordings - which we did! .... St Louis Old Rock Cafe had 4 HD cameras recording the whole gig...ended up with an amazing quality recoding and movie of it all. We all rocked out in the van the next day. if that indulgence is allowed-- yes of course... A small snippet of funky dube is up on you tube- look for "the egg live in St Louis"- -
Next morning after a quick sprint up the big curve ('the gateway') and we were on our way to Madison , where we played in a big old theatre with STEEZ, and Orchard Lounge DJs again . great 8 track from that we vibed to..later . got some speakers and Had a fun party in the Sheraton - then luckily for us- a night off- on our way to Chicago!!
Stayed in the worst hotel in the world for two days then somewhere in town - Lincoln Park - it was actually sunny in Chicago-..after a night of sleeeep and bits of illness, The gig was fun, we had a nutty crowd and our first Taper (nick) came to the show to record it- gonna be put up on archive.org- check it out..(well do the sooundboard mix too ) Went of to see Ferry Corsten DJing at vision in the downtown, - had a crazy night, with Mike and Blaise, then Erin and Sandy- he does t shirts- maybe maybe.. Ended up down at the chicago Marathon by lake michigan, then onto the Green Mill later for some amazing live hammond B3 jazz with an amazing guy called chris. fantastic player, and blind too..
Next night (we had a few off) we met up with Ben Silver, Bethany, and Spencer forom Orchard Lounge, did a tune 'early apples' - well call it. at their place- a combination thing - still in process... next night Went to meet Youth who was playing with Killing Joke at the House of Blues.. Jaz Coleman gave us all his fridge load of beers "i dont drink them myself" he said- Handy- we thought- Onto the Kingston Mines where only live music is played, on a constant 2 room- 2 stage rotation system till 4am...Funky and bluesy and sassy and and and
Chicago is one of the best cities weve been- its fantastic- from the anish Kapoor 'Bean' to the ~frank gehry outside venue, and all the Frank Lloyd wright-- crazy skyline, and an Amazing place--! would love to go back...
Cleveland the next night was fun, plus some backstage partying, tried out getting away with it - (the song that is..) ... now were in Pennysylvania, about to play, playing now in the first band is a very good drummer ...by the name of Rodney, and JImmy on Guitar.. from Bob Dylan's 'The Band'
Well Wilkes barre was fantastic. The vibeyest gig so far...really full gig.. And all 16 track recorded with a whole bunch of freestyling after the end AND BEYOND..A big crowd who'd seen us at camp Bisco all came together so it was like a festival indoors,.. 2 encores and fun in the car park after... our motel featured Jay, who did some amazing raps for us in the morning, .. classic diner breakfast- dash to macys for serious clothing needs, spinal tap dvd - well we just had to (including neds "hello cleveland" ! well we had to do that too..) (yes our tourbus only plays US dvds...) and family guy star wars - we pissed ourselves at that..
Then on to Baltimore, it was a great soundsystem and we played but it was a cut a bit short- there were 4 bands on , so pretty hectic, but they were all good.. Didnt help us getting there a bit late, but hey it rocked, and we played after Damn Right who we met in Baltimore in july...and all went onto a party in an attic - we actually walked! very good for us probably.. its just all drive drive gig drink sleep drive drink gig sleep drive sleep gig drive drink sleep... well ok we have been sober for the soundchecks, and gigs, weve been quite together actually.. Anyway a funky party at paul and Athena's place..
next day on to Philladelphia, home of he disco biscuits and much more. We sold out the World cafe Live! even more vibey than Wilkes barre, the crowd seem to love Always there... maybe its the english samples and teenagers "i like my mum, my dad " and all that mate...Downstairs ben Taylor played (friend of bass player Bens, and son of the brilliant james taylor) Anyway he was very good, we mellowed out to our dinner watching him and his band...
Party after was first at "Funtown" where theye'd converted their house cellar to a bar! nice. then our hotel, we came very close to all being thrown out if it were'nt for shauns quick talking and matts lengthy persuasion. anyway we made another tune, had a day off, ran up the steps 'rocky' ran up at the art museum (theres a statue of him, obviously!) everyone does it y know... did another tune.. first , then shaun and bens "shocking pink" house music jam ...
Early morning today... long journey from philladelphia- just arrived in Boston, !! see you soon..x
Well ..boston was amazing - really vibey and full gig with the crowd shouting "egg, egg egg !" for a second encore... like back home!! saw al who put on a party and shaun worked on a remix of Damn Right.. from philly. Nice- on to burlington vermont now..latersxxx
Never seen so many trees at the same time in my life.. valleys, hills, ridges, the lot, all trees, no chopping up into fields, just all trees and all yellow, red, oranges, the colours of fall in new england.. amazing.. and er... cold!. I bought a hat and lost it a few hours later, so basically i rented a hat.. great! what a bargain. Burlington had the craziest dancers..and an upstairs club,- we have a lot of stuff by the way... shiiiiitttt! the floor strangely moved above and below as we played.... the gig was brilliant though.. again! partied with big Al in the hilton, (who we did the same with in boston) broke into the swimming pool etc as you do...stayed in a funny motel called 'not a motel' - but it really was..
and on through endless orange trees to manchester conneticut--
Havent a clue what day it is now, only its manchester but its not manchester if you know what i mean.. Sunnier for a start..and no miserable mancs twisting my melon, (which i quite like actually).. The 'main pub' here has a habit of booking really good acts (ha ha , what .. us?) and there we are, staying in a funny motel and nearly missing the gig altogether... nearly....Good gig actually, We played new tune 'a bit' for the first time on tour, were trying out for our album.. pretty good we thought.. but waht do we know huh.. its up to YOU the audience! .. met some really cool guys after the gig and went for a GONG session around the corner, who'd been at camp bisco, so we had a special treatment each.. It was really cosmic.. My whole body was shaking with nervous energy afterwards... likewise everyone else.... After a messy next bit and morning we had breakfast with these dudes.. and off to our final stop New Fxxxin' York !!
The last gig came upon us by surprise, just as it was all becoming a way of life, and we'd given the tour van back.. that was it. done!! Anyway Le Royale was a tight venue, the smallest stage yet but a great hot sweaty vibe, 'compact and bijou mate' with a spectacular band after us and many drinks later.. we ended up in The Aftershow Party, with Lee , our agent , who put much of the tour together, mike the south american part of Amonly, Brooklyn Rob who we all love, people we'd met on the way and many more we met that night.. It was a good and messy night, up by 17th and 2nd, Ben Dj'd and it was ace .. up till 11 am and in funny cafe bars experiencing ' normal ' people, which is always wierd.. but very very funny, and got a great recording of a nyc cabbie talking about woodstock 69' in a brilliant accent, we just gotta use it (we do the same with english folk btw) ...A final trip out to times sq, had a look at the Nokia theater for next time in december (27th+28th), bought some stuff, you know , as you do...up the rockerfeller, down to the amazing underground cellar with fantastic food, accessed through a pretend diner bar up top .. and and drinks in the east village, some trip to brooklyn got squeezed in somehow.. Had to get the late plane, after frustrating Airport shenanigans , but hey. one downer in 3 and a half weeks aint bad going... Finally a Big up to all who came to the gigs, Thankyou , it would be nothing without you lot there to make the vibe, and esp to Big Al who came to 3 gigs, and put on 2 parties for us, kristi who came to four, Ellie and April who came to two (driving 10 hours there and back), the gong guys, Our friend paul we havent seen for donkeys (2 gigs) The 40 strong bisco party arriving en masse to pack out the rest of wilkes barre, Ben taylor, The promoters, venue staff and sound and stage guys everywhere we went (but esp. in Boston), folks back home for putting up with us 'departing'..! all the other bands we played with, orchard lounge, Damn Right, Athena for the party in Baltimore, Sandy and Erin, Elizabeth and Lindsay from Chicago, , the fire people at Coallescence, and Hector who flew from from Houston to denver. and yes We did play venice beach just for you .
