Ok, so I've been thinking and writing.
Too much.
We've all heard the cliches about how much our culture sabotages the word "love." Right? I love pizza, I love naps, I love new things and on and on. It's diluted to the point that declaring our love communicates very little. Marriages hinge on the strength of love but those involved know little of its strength so they give up. The Greeks had three words describing love; the Jews, 5. We have one and expect it to encompass all of our affections.
I love my wife.
I love my friends.
I love the weather.
I love eating.
I love beer.
If a = b and b = c, then a = ...you know. Is my love for beer (scottish ale) really equal to my love for my wife? Either I love beer too much or my wife too little.
All of my recent writing can be boiled down.
Just don't call it love. If it's not true, passionate committed love, don't call it love. Call it what it is: lust, emotion, naivety.
I want to stop wasting love on trivial things. I want to stop sabotaging love.
