An exceptional cassette from a mysterious and off the grid musician.  Coltrane has releases on his own Hermitage Tapes label as well as on American Tapes.  On Empty Horizons, Coltrane combines analog synth , electronics and tapeloops in a creative yet organized fashion.  Sounds seem to merge and emrge into and from one another.  The result is a highly visual and evocative experience.  The work takes on a measured and structural form to my ears.  At the same time, Coltrane challenges the senses by not making the work predictable.  Its really very thoughful work.  The fact that Coltrane doesn't work in digital formats and has almost no web presence adds to the mystery.  A strange and beautiful black and white cover graces this release with little other information save name, instrumentation and title.  If you can find this, its very highly recommended.
