Joseph E. Evans Jr. aka “Evaj Music” was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 27, 1984. Submerged in a family of musicians and ministers he got the best of both worlds. He was classically trained in piano up until the age of 12, played the violin, at one point sang in the choir, and even dabbled with the harmonica from time to time. He gets his roots from the church. Parents Joe and Sherri Evans Sr. were both pastors at one time and his dad played the piano at every church they attended before they started there own ministry. Growing up he was forced to hear about God and listen to music that brought praise to His name. From the outside in he seemed as the perfect angel to some. But like many others he felt like he was missing out on what the world had to offer instead of God. During his childhood years he struggled with acceptance and depression, which later lead to a small drug addiction to marijuana. Every week during his late teens and college years, sometimes two and three times in the same week, he was chasing women at clubs and fraternity/sorority parties. Wanting to break into the secular music industry as a super producer like his “then idol” Timbaland, he became more and more susceptible to compromise. In his run for fame he was offered a production contract with Fresh Entertainment, started an indie record label called Next Rated Entertainment, and had a few of his songs hit the charts on his local radio station Power 103.5 with a group known as the “Goodfellas”. This would seem like a great start to a successful career but his focus was on the wrong things. After a vision of flames and encouragement from close friends, his Godly upbringing would later pull him back to God on January 1, 2009. Since that day He has been putting his all into The Kingdom’s business and uses his past struggles to share the Gospel with others. Now when you hear the name Evaj Music you think of three things: a talented music producer/songwriter, an up and coming Christian rap/Hip hop recording artist, and most of all someone who has a PASSION FOR CHRIST and saving the lost.
