Current mood: aggravated
I just pulled all the plastic shopping bags that I use as kitchen trash bags from under my sink cupboard. Holy shit!!! They form a freakin' mountain!! It really made me think about how much plastic I am using. It's so reflexive to just get stuff bagged in plastic at a store. I need to get one of those canvas tote bags. I think San Fran is on the right path in banning these things. They are not biodegradable and will just end up in some landfill somewhere. I am hoping the NYC Council will follow their lead, but I highly doubt it. THese things are just too cheap and ubiquitous.
I am also urging folks to refrain from buying GE products. Tough since they have a hand in everything. Rationale: GE could have shown some leadership and vision and ceased manufacturing incandescent light bulbs, but they copped out to the almighty dollar, instead promising to introduce more efficient models. They don't want to lose the dough from incandescent sales, even though the clout they wield could well have influenced more AMericans to buy CFL's. I know they have a wind energy division, which I respect, but their decision is just indefensible.
