Hey Guys.

Each week, Lindsay from our team sends an email to the entire TWLOHA team. When we open this email, it's a time to reflect on some of the messages and emails that have come in over the last few days. Some of the messages are heavy and hard to read. Others are full of hope and encouragement. Life is both and everything in between.

Lindsay sends these messages to remind us of our mission, the heart of the matter. Each week, as we read the messages she includes, we're reminded where this started and we're reminded why we do what we do.

Today, "TWLOHA Day", is one that our team didn't come up with. We don't know a lot about it, to be honest - not sure where it came from or how it spread to so many people. But perhaps that's been true for much of our story - we've seen the best of passion and communication. We've seen people share and build something beautiful together.

With today in mind, i want to share one of the messages that Lindsay sent to us yesterday:

"My name is Taylor and I am 22 years old. I have been an addict for the past six years of my life and have been looking at getting into rehab for awhile now. I should be checking in sometime this week I am just waiting for my federal aid to come in. I wanted to thank you guys for doing what you do and being there. I haven't personally ever talked to anyone with your organization but my sister heard about it somehow. My sister is 18 years old and has never used a day in her life. Ever since I started using I haven't been there for her and we kind of live two completely seperate lives. We haven't gotten along. Today my sister picked me up from my house and said she had a surprise for me. We went and got love tattooed on our arms. She  has never had a tattoo so this was a big step for her. She started crying, I haven't seen real emotion from my sister in a long long time. She told me what you guys were about and expressed what she has felt about my use and the way I have made her feel. I made a promise to her to stay clean, something I have never said to anyone. Every time I look down at my arm it will remind me of what a commitment my sister has made to me and to helping me stay clean. I just wanted to thank you guys for helping her understand and helping her accept me and not frown upon me. Your organization has really made an impact on both of our lives and I really wanted to express my gratitude.

Thank you so much for what you guys do everyday and what your organization will continue to do for so many people, you guys really do save lifes.

Thank you so much.

All the love and respect in the world."

If you decide to write the word "love" on your arm today, please remember the heart of the matter. The goals were never "cute" or "fashion". Our title, "to write love on her arms", was born as a goal and it remains a goal. We're inviting people to fight for their lives and for the lives of their friends. We're inviting people to believe better things.

If you want to help us spread the word about hope and help, we would be honored. If you want to tell people that they need other people, that every story matters - again, we would be honored. We say these things because we believe them to be true, and because too many people live alone under other lies.

Let's continue to fight to figure out what this word "love" means. Let's aim for how it looks and how it sounds - maybe something like humility and confidence and kindness, maybe honesty and compassion...

We're in all these things together. It's bigger than cute and it's louder than fashion.

Thanks always for your support.
You matter very much.

jamie and the entire TWLOHA team

we're all authors, aren't we?  writing on people's hearts and minds.

it's a good time to step back and ask ourselves what we're writing.
love stories or tales of despair and hopelessness?

there are greater things yet to come,
greater things still to be done.

Thank you Eric. I'm sitting here hurting and you reminded me that part of the reason why is because I don't want to write stories or despair anymore, I want to write a love story. Maybe today will give me the courage to figure out how.

TWLOHA day was today in Australia. All of my friends participated and we were all asked "What's that for?"
We were proud to say that To Write Love On Her Arms is a non-profit organisation, out there to impact and save lives from self-harm and suicide.  <3

i got my friends to let me draw "LOVE" on their arms in some ways in Henna ink, and drew something on my arm as well (i'll tag you in the pictures i'll take!). i made little flyers with my own story about my encounter with a friend's hidden scars. a friend read the stories on the site and was so moved, she cried. my school's friday morning video announcements interviewed me about this day (so i'll be on those TV's tomorrow!).
thank you for making this happen. this message is vital to me; seeing friends do that to themselves makes me sink to the lowest depths because i know how much it sucks to be in that position, but it makes me want to put this message out there even more.

im definantly doing this. i strive every day to not only find happiness within myself but of that in others. i have very many people with whom i talk with and have issues such as these and i help in any way shape or form that is in my reach. i am celebrating not for myself, but those of others. those who are still here and are seeking help and those of others that will find their way in life. i encourage everyone to do as i do, not for me but for yourself. let others know you are here for them and you will always be there for them.   i want to thank all of you for what you have done. you have inspired me to be bold and out there and you have given me a chance to let others know im not just another person walking down the hallway, i am their friend. =] national TWLOHA day, the very best!

Yeah sometimes it's easy to take quick action, but with less purpose. It's good to "stew" in things sometimes, let them soak in, truly comprehend. This week I have been taking time to do that and remember what this organization is about. I think "TWLOHA Day" is at a great time of the year. There are people out there who in the midst of Holiday cheer & sharing family stories by the fire are alone. Christmas and Thanksgiving can be tough for so many people and I've been there. Perhaps thinking about what these holidays are truly about and pondering our parts in this can make a world of difference, even for one person.
"Strangers are just friends we haven't met yet."
Thanks for sharing such an honest account of what love can do.

That is such an amazing story, I wish her the best of luck in her recovery process.<3

Tonight and tomorrow I think everyone who supports twloha, wears a shirt, or anything should take a few moments and just realize how much twloha has done for them, and how its not about helping it be one of the biggest non profits out there, or how many shirts you own, or when you first heard about twloha, its about things that matter, things that mean something to us and can help us help ourselves and others. Its about community, healing, hope, the sense that all of this and everything twloha stands for is for us.Not the money, not the fame, not the fame, but to raise awarness, lower the stigma, jokes and negative thinking or cmts about self injury addictio and suicide. Its about us, its about helping on person, its about loving one another and letting people love you.

Love to me means a lot. Mainly because I tried to commit suicide three times and I self mutilated myself from the time I was twelve until I was sixteen years old. My new husband's father also committed suicide. Tomorrow I write 'love' on my arms for him and myself-but I also write it for everyone who deals with depression, addiction or was effect by it from a loved one...

My friends and I wrote LOVE on our arms today not to be cool or for people to think we have a fetish in covering ourselves in pen. We did it because of what TWLOHA means to us and what we can share.
We have become a tight band of girls, who two years ago didnt know each other and it has been a journey for us all.
I am a self harmer, I am harm free since January 29, 2009. Without TWLOHA I wouldnt have known what to say to my friends, and they wouldnt know what to say to me. Now we know it's more than ever about listening and remembering to live this existence, that whether we like it or not is shared.
We met you at Soundwave in Melbourne this year, but were to shy to talk, but I guess all we would have said is Thankyou and that isn't really big enough.
Writing Love on our arms today has started conversations, it has chipped at some stigma, I'm sure of it.
Everyday I am open, everyday I am listening and sometimes I share. Today I wanted that to have a physical embodiment.
Keep spreading the hope and love.
xx

That is so inspirational. If people don't know about this organization, then we should start getting the news out. If it can change one persons life like that, then think about everyone elses lives that could be changed for the better.(:

I've always loved this organization, and will continue supporting it!!!(:(:
This just comes to show that we all have something good in life, we just really need to realize what that is and achieve towards what it is. Everyone has something special and someone who loves them, we all just need to open up our eyes and see it.
