As you well know by now, we did a split 7" with our friends Blondsai! on Raped By Records. Heres some reviews.
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL, September 2007 Issue
(REVIEW BY KENNY KAOS)
Good record. THE LEXINGTON ARROWS plays catchy punk, with a hint of jangly and great, desperate female vocals. It's got that sense of urgency and a soul that sets it apart from most releases. BLONDSAI also has the female vocalist and this one wants us to believe she's Kim Shattuck (of MUFFS fame.) The music itself is also very MUFFS-like. Two, actually three good songs, for sure.
TERMINAL BOREDOM, September 2007
(REVIEW BY RICH KRONEISS)
The Blondsai side: three tracks of heavy dooty mid-tempo guitar-driven action, like Electric Frankenstein with a broad singing. More rock (and real close to getting a w instead of the c) than punk. Bass player sports a handlebar moustache. Lexington Arrows side: two songs of Detroit Cobras Jr. style female-vocalled rub'n'roll. The better of the two bands here, as the chick does have a little bit o' soul in her pipes. Both from Baltimore, comes with a CD-R of the tunes as well. I think I might've drawn the cover art for the Blondsai side in sixth grade when I was really into ninjas.
NOW WAVE MAGAZINE, June 26, 2007
(REVIEW BY LORD RUTLEDGE)
From the great American city of Baltimore comes this raging killer of a split. Blondsai play no-bullshit punk rock with a hard-edged, aggressive appeal and a bad-ass singer named Tiffany who can growl with the best of 'em. In this day and age when everyone's angling for a sub-genre niche, it's great to hear a group doing straight-up PUNK ROCK. Yep, this is the shit: raw and nasty, with the whiff of sex and danger. And I freakin' love those hot-rockin' guitar leads! The band sums up its sound like this: "Imagine the Runaways started a gang with the Lunachicks, while banging all the members of the Heartbreakers and Guitar Wolf while listening to the Sonics and the Ramones. Then after your brain melts from that image, pour it into a pan and nuke it for two minutes." A description as accurate as that cannot be improved upon, so I'll just say "Hell yeah!" and move on.
Thee Lexington Arrows are also fronted by a woman, the extremely talented Kathleen. Whereas Blondsai's approach is pure attacking ferocity, Thee Lexington Arrows have got more of an old timey rock n' roll thing going. The group combines elements of surf and roots/rockabilly, but mixes in some contemporary garage/punk n' roll venom. Kathleen can really belt it in the vein of past greats like Mia Zapata and Kat Arthur from Legal Weapon. The first tune works a slower, sleazy groove, while the second one kicks up the pace and rocks like fuck. I'm impressed!
This record left me wanting more tunes from both bands, which was probably the whole point! That's what a good split should do: introduce you to a couple of kick-ass bands, pique your interest, and get you totally psyched for the primo hot rock to come. I can't say I like one of these bands better than the other. So let's just call it a draw and drink to the bright futures of both!
