Gameboy/Gamegirl, Scientists of Modern Music, Theatre of Disco

What better way to start the festival season than a free gig at the swanky soco cargo bar at the garden of unearthly delights with some of Australia's wackiest electronic acts.

First up was Theatre of Disco apparently an infamous sydney group. I somehow was misinformed and had heard that they had fat suits. After you expect fat suits everything is a disappointment.

they had some pretty cool cowbell filled electro jams vaguely resembling the Chemical Brothers at their most exotic

The vocalist sounded like a mixture of Muse and a chipmunk version of Vanilla Ice, but in a good way!

2 Many Djs have a lot to answer for. They didn't invent the mashup but they sure made it chic. They are also in part responsible for these guys deciding that it would be a good idea to rap over daft punk, dance in unison to salt n pepa's push it, cover Rick Ross's Hustlin' and have a song called sweaty wet/dirty damp. And we should be thank 2 many Djs cause these guys are the pinnacle of awesome.

Its best not to ask about this

With remixes of indie rock songs being so ubiquitous, some even more popular than the original, its only a matter of time before bands decide to bypass the rock aspect totally. Instead just use sampled drums, synthesizers and vocoder. Their raw energy has to be admirable. for most of the performance they were just a blur of motion.

I loved some of their songs which kinda had a doctor who theme feel.

They also had matching outfits.

They got a pretty fickle ADD crowd dancing which was no mean feet.

The matching outfits were terrible! Especially the guy in white haha
Those gameboy/gamegirl girls were cute, however... hopefully they bring out some kind of ep.

Yes, yes totally agree! Gameboy/Gamegirl are all types of awesome. Their set was great. Haha and I also love how he didn't feel the need to actually take off his shorts, just leave them at his feet for the rest of the gig hah. Scientists weren't too bad either.

Nice photos, good chatting to you also! Will no doubt see you around the gig scene again soon.
