A lot of people talk about how 40 is the new 30 or 30 is the new 20. This bullshit's gotta stop. There are no universal guidelines of how you're suppose to act in regards to your age. And there shouldn't be. Your age shouldn't be a factor in you deciding how you go about your day. We live in exciting times, with opportunities available to us that were previously unavailable.

Why limit yourself?

If you happen to be 40 years old, but you want to participate in an activity that 20 year olds participate in, then you should do it because it's what you want to do. Unless that activity involves scoping out high school chicks, but that's a whole other issue. But again, why limit yourself? Why let others dictate how you live your life, just because they don't think a person of your age should be allowed to engage in a certain activity? It's your life. Go do it if it's really what you want. Break free from the prison of social acceptance. Cause the bottom line, you don't want to be in your death bed, looking back, and thinking to yourself - I never did anything cause I was always too old. YEAH!!!!

i'm sorry...

for SOME things in life - i TOTALLY and whole-heartedly agree... life is too short for regret...

BUT when i see 40+ guys in the bar acting like they never left the fraternity and they are all drunk and stupid?!  i totally DISAGREE with you ...

too old?  yes, for some things we just get too old...

Wow!!  As probably the oldest person who will ever respond to your blog, I have to say WOO!WOO!  BRING ON THE BOOZE!  WHERE'S THE POLE? WHO'S GOTTA DOLLAR??

Hahahaha!  I am 42 years old, and I love my age!  I love how I feel, and I love how I don't give a shit what someone else thinks about me anymore! Took me a while to get there, but I finally made it!  Age is a frame of mind, and I refuse to live in an A-frame, when I'm more of a rolling estate!  (sorry, really old realtor joke!)

For those of you who don't know, Amanda here is one of my coolest friends.  She gets paid to do the wild thing, but she doesn't do it for the money.  She does it for the medication.  Awwwww YEAH!

Vice versa is true.  Just because I'm 29 years old doesn't mean that I can't act 79.  What I'm trying to say is, yeah, I'd bang Estelle Getty.

"Break free from the prison of social acceptance."

Well said. I agree. I was just having a conversation about this at work yesterday. The whole "buy a house by this age, have kids by that age." SAYS WHO?? Societies standards of what's right or wrong.

Do you. Ya got one life so live it.

Cheers.

If 30 is the new 20 then...does that make 21 the new 11? If so, i dont want any part of this age revolution!

You're right....

No one should dictate how to act, WHATEVER you age may be---

but when you're hitting 40 and you're at the club dropping it like it's hot and all the 20-something kids look at you like they would when they are staring at their parents---

THAT should be a good indication that you're a fish out of water.

I'm just saying.

Life is just a question of Mind over Matter .....

Life doesn't Mind and you don't Matter (in a cosmic dust speck sort of way).

You only live once, ... but if you work it right ... once is enough!

Great Blog Joe ...

So because I'm 40, does that mean that I should participate in activities that 100-year-olds partake in such as: goiter removal, gall bladder removal, denture soaking, lying around in bed all day, etc.? I think that that would broaden my horizons. In my opinion, 40 is the new 50, 20 is the new 80, and 60 is the new 15. All other ages are simply their ages. Nancy Miller.

I am 40 years old, but most 20 year olds don't want 40 year olds doing what they do. Only the 'tweens and the 100 year olds have anything in common with the 40 year olds. The 20 year olds are through with us 40 year olds bein' cool.
