I had the chance to catch my first Ratatat show last night at Fillmore West. It should be stated that I am not very familiar with their work.

I don't know if the openers were designed to be iffy at best (they shall remain nameless), but they sure made Ratatat seem that much more on point last night. The bass was pretty high, but it didn't conceal the fact those boys can rip on the guitars. Everyone was into it--the crowd and the band (especially the keys player).

I knew walking into the show that there wouldn't be a singer, yet I couldn't help but wonder how they would sound with a solid vocalist adding one more layer to the mix. But, as my friends and I said, complaining about a lack of vocals at a Ratatat show is like complaining about the dialogue in a Woody Allen film.

All in all it was a great show. I am not a huge Electronica fan, but I am definitely getting into any music that fuses Rock and Electronica. Outside of Radiohead, I haven't heard a band do it better that Ratatat.
