This morning we launched some new music features. Some really cool stuff! Here's an update:
New music player & playlist pages. The player has a different look/color scheme and now includes a "Playlists" link which links to the other playlists you make. On your profile playlist you can display 10 songs, but you can make 100s of playlists with 100s of songs on your playlist page. As you probably noticed last week, there's a link on the top of your profile next to your "Pics & Vids" link that links to playlist page just like the player's playlist link. So start making playlists beyond what you see on your profile, and start sending your friends to your playlist page to check it out! (Or, if you're making playlists just to listen to, you can just enjoy it youself.) You can also randomize which songs play on your player. Go to My Account / Miscellaneous and check the music player settings.
New music player for artists & album pages. The artist player now shows the songs the artists choose to feature. To listen to the artist's albums, click the album link at the bottom of the player, and then flip through the album slider to find the album you want. Click on the album and you're taken to the album page where you can see the entire track list and listen from the page. Artists are dying to know how many plays they receive each day. That info is still there, but its not displayed right on the player -- you just have to click "statistics" at the bottom of the player to pull up the stats page. We'll increase the size of the total playcount font, as many users have commented that it's too small!
More Music! We are adding more and more songs to MySpace Music including the entire discography / back catalogue for most artists. We literally ingest 1,000s of songs every day. And what's key is that it is legal/legit and free for you to stream. If you didn't see an artist or song last week, or a month ago, check again because we're working very hard to bring in all the artists.
Bugs/Problems. If you can't see the player or you're having trouble loading, try clearnig your browser cache, and restarting your browser. Once you start fresh, it should work fine -- in fact, it should be faster & smoother than the old player! The links to Albums, Statistics and Playlists are a little hard to see right now, because they weren't loading properly, but this should be wrapped up over the next few hours. We are working dilligently to get everything working smoothly Thanks for your patience!
Search. We revamped the music search last week. Now you can search for artist, song, or album. All the results come back in one search. You can preview/play a song within the search results. You can even drag and drop songs into your playlsits from the search page. Try it out!
Note: Non-US users will be able to see album and playlist pages soon, we’re just working out the translations so the pages look ok. While we don’t yet have all of the licenses for everyone around the globe to stream ALL content, a good amount of it is available for you and, at minimum, we want to allow you to view your US-based friends’ playlists and check out the full discography of your favorite artists. Stay tuned, we’ll be opening these pages up to you in the coming weeks. If you live in the US and can't access these new features, check your account settings page to make sure you're really set to US culture. You may be set to another country, where you can' t access the feature!
What's Coming
° Soon you'll be able to customize the look of the player (look for this in April), and we're working on many other enhancements to make sharing and creating playlists easier.
° We changed the position of the stats on the player because we're going to begin showing even more play stats in the near future and we needed more room to display them!
° I know unsigned bands are wishing they could still offer free downloads. That feature will be returning. We just had to close this down to make sure that music wasn't being downloaded inappropriately.
