If you're familiar with my music and interested in my instruments, you've probably noticed that I use very different kinds of bass guitars, from the '63 Fiesta Red Fender Jazz Bass to the incredible Jerzy Drozd Legend XII YC fretless 12 string sub-bass guitar.
You probably know about my philisophy concerning my "toys": instruments are tools.
I'm interested in all kinds of bass guitars, but I'm going to explain why I love the ones I use:
- Vintage Fenders: they represent the past, but also the sound that everyone has in their ears for almost 60 years now... I love and need this sound.
- Noguera YC contrabass and sub-bass guitars: after collaborating for more than 10 years now with Christian Noguera, I have found my personal sound, extended from the sub-bass range to the chordal and high melodic range I use in "Holy Spirit". This has become my signature. Christian Noguera made it perfectly. Those instruments represent the present to me.
- Jerzy Drozd Legend X YC and Legend XII YC sub-bass guitars: with those instruments I can expand to another dimension with no limit: the 12 has a range of 8 octaves, the maximum available on the biggest piano. The Legend X and XII can still be used as bass guitars, but they are also something else and it's all about imagination. I have the rest of my life to discover many ways to play Jerzy's creations. They have an artistic influence on my music... this is the future I have chosen. Jerzy Drozd has created perfection. We have collaborated together for 4 years now.
I can never thank Jerzy and Christian fully for having believed in me enough to create my vision of bass guitars. I feel very blessed; I can compose my music and play it with my instruments as I imagine it. I can navigate from the old school sound to the future with new sounds and no restriction of range. This is what I've done on the new album "A Life", and I know that you'll enjoy it.
