Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Today in California we saw the Supreme Court uphold an unfair, unnecessary and outright bigoted law that further enshrines injustice into the State's constitution. It is a dark day and an even darker blemish on the beautiful road to freedom in a state that has always stood for fairness and lead the way in defining "Justice for All."

But despite the setback that most of us knew would come today I couldn't be prouder to be a Califonian. I live in a state where my beautiful brothers and sisters have been allowed to wed regardless of who they love. We have continued to rattle the cage of inequality and we will not give up. It was an extraordinary thing to read how the Iowa justices quoted our own in its unanimous decision to allow marriage equality and I have NO doubt that we have not heard the last of California and its great people.

For today, allow a spot of sadness for the fear that still drives so many to hateful action. For tomorrow take heart in knowing that our day is coming soon... of that there is no doubt. I love you,

Thanks for that, Chad. Here's hoping the new lawsuit filed to overturn the ruling by a group that includes Ted Olsen, will stand up to the judicial test this time around.

The Court was wrong.  Regardless of whether it was an "amendment" or a "revision", the Court should have struck down Prop-8 and said once-and-for-all:  one individual or group can not vote away the rights of any individual or group!  -  A right is a right!  Not something that can be voted away.

Since the Court wouldn't do the job, then it's back to the ballot box.
Next year, let's not sit on our rear ends...  let's work to make sure people know what is at stake, not just for gays, but for every individual or group.  50%+1 cannot discriminate against the 50%-1

Equality for all.

Thanks for keeping in the fight, Chad.

Well said.  When people such as your self speak up, it inspires others like myself to become more involved as well.  Thank You.  --Mark

It's just another hurdle we must overcome in order to get all the states to finally amend their laws and allow everyone to marry, no matter who they love. I'm so glad I live in a state (NJ) that recognizes my union to my husband of 2 years. We had the big wedding and reception in front of all our family and friends. Whether it was a law or not I still planned on marrying him.

We as a nation must set aside the bigotry and see that people who love each other should have the same rights as everyone else that is allowed to marry. We are human and deserves to be treated as equals. There is no problem governments taking our money in taxes and other ways; so why dont' they see the benefit of allowing us to marry and see how much more it would benefit the economy.

I hope they will appeal to the federal supreme court.  The U.S. Constitution guarantees all citizens the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".  Marriage should certainly count as "pursuit of happiness"!

I am really sorry Chad! The Court was wrong, but I hope in the future everyone in state California will have equal rights to love and marriage.
